Cilfynydd
Cilfynydd is a village in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, a mile from the South Wales Valleys town of Pontypridd, and 13 miles north of the capital city, Cardiff. Cilfynydd is also an electoral ward for the county council and Pontypridd Town Council. History Situated on the banks of the River Taff, the village was named after Cilfynydd farm, which was on the east side of the valley. Cilfynydd Farm was farmed by the Lloyd family, most recently Gwun and Lewis Lloyd, who are now both deceased. Cilfynydd was originally a farming hamlet, consisting of some cottages built along the Glamorganshire Canal and a few surrounding farms. These properties, according to the 1881 census, housed about 100 people, but this all changed over the next two decades. Bernard Hedges
Bernard Hedges (10 November 1927 – 8 February 2014) was a Welsh cricketer who played for Glamorgan, making his first-class debut in 1950 and playing his last match in 1967. He played 422 first-class matches, all of them for Glamorgan. He played most of his cricket as an opening batsman despite starting his career in the middle order. He scored 17,733 first-class runs at an average of 25.22, with 21 centuries and a highest score of 182. His best season was 1961, when he scored 2026 runs at an average of 32.15. Tudor Rickards (born 1941 in Pontypridd, Wales) is a self published author of non-fiction and fiction, a business academic, and a scientist. He is Professor Emeritus at University of Manchester and formerly Professor of creativity and Organisational change at Alliance Manchester Business School. Alun Richards
Alun Morgun Richards (27 October 1929 – 2 June 2004) was a Welsh novelist, best known for his novel '' Ennal's Point'', about the work of a lifeboat crew in South Wales. Richards was born in King Edward Avenue, Caerphilly. He was educated at Pontypridd Grammar School and the University College of Wales. After training to be a teacher Richards joined the Royal Navy which sparked a fascination with the sea that inspired much of his writing. In 1955 he returned to Wales from London but became ill with tuberculosis and was admitted to the sanatorium at Talgarth. After two years he was released and married Helen Howden, a probation officer, with whom he had three sons and a daughter. He taught English for 10 years and settled in Mumbles, Swansea, which provided the backdrop for much of his writing. David Christopher Kelly (14 May 1944 – 17 July 2003) was a Welsh scientist and authority on biological warfare (BW). A former head of the Defence Microbiology Division working at Porton Down, Kelly was part of a joint US-UK team that inspected civilian biotechnology facilities in Russia in the early 1990s and concluded they were running a covert and illegal BW programme. He was appointed to the United Nations Special Commission (UNSCOM) in 1991 as one of its chief weapons inspectors in Iraq and led ten of the organisation's missions between May 1991 and December 1998. He also worked with UNSCOM's successor, the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) and led several of their missions into Iraq. Geraint Stanley Jones
Geraint Stanley Jones (c. 1936 – 26 August 2015) was a Welsh television executive. From 1981 to 1989, Jones was the Controller of BBC Wales, from which he oversaw the launch of S4C, the Welsh-language public-service television channel, in 1982. Jones also served as the chief executive of S4C from 1989 to 1994. In 1960, Jones began his career in television broadcasting as a studio manager for BBC Wales. He was elevated to a television producer, before being appointed as head of programmes for BBC Wales in 1974. David Lloyd Jones, Lord Lloyd-Jones, PC, FLSW (born 13 January 1952) is a British judge and legal scholar. He has served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom since 2017, and has also served as a member of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales and as a chairman of the Law Commission prior to joining the Supreme Court.
