Pontarddulais Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the town of Pontarddulais in Wales, United Kingdom, UK. The club is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Ospreys (rugby union), Ospreys. The club is famous as the location for the recording in 1975 of We All Had Doctors' Papers, a live album by Welsh comedian and singer Max Boyce, the only comedy album ever to top the UK album charts. Although rugby had been played in Pontarddulais before the club's formation, it was not until 22 September 1881 that the local inhabitants decided on creating an official rugby club. The fact that Pontarddulais have a formation date is fairly uncommon if not unique in Welsh rugby union clubs formed before World War I; as most other teams did not record the event. Pontarddulais
Pontarddulais (), also known as Pontardulais (), is both a community and a town in Swansea, Wales. It is northwest of the city centre. The Pontarddulais ward is part of the City and County of Swansea. Pontarddulais adjoins the village of Hendy in Carmarthenshire. The built-up population was 9,073. History Most of the town lies within the parish of Llandeilo Tal-y-bont apart from the small section west of the bridge which lies in Llanedi parish. The bridge referred to in the name of Llandeilo Tal-y-bont (meaning "Saint Teilo's church at the end of the bridge") is not the same as that of Pontaberdulais. The church bridge was located near the old church on the earlier Roman road that crossed the river Loughor near Hendy. WRU Division Two West
The Welsh Rugby Union League 2 West (also called the SWALEC League 2 West for sponsorship reasons) is a rugby union league in Wales. Competition format and sponsorship Competition There are 12 clubs in the WRU League 2 West. During the course of a season (which lasts from September to May) each club plays the others twice, once at their home ground and once at that of their opponents for a total of 22 games for each club, with a total of 132 games in each season. Teams receive four points for a win and two point for a draw, an additional bonus point is awarded to either team if they score four tries or more in a single match. ''We All Had Doctors' Papers'' is a live album by Welsh comedian and singer Max Boyce, first issued in 1975 and recorded at Pontarddulais Rugby Club. It was his fourth album release and followed his breakthrough recording ''Live at Treorchy''. The album contains a mixture of comedic and traditional songs, along with Boyce's interactions with the crowd. Two songs on the album, " Sosban Fach" and "Ar Lan y Môr", are in the Welsh language. It is the only comedy album to have topped the UK Albums Chart. Album ''We All Had Doctors' Papers'' is a live recording similar to Boyce's recording of the previous year ''Live at Treorchy''. Just as ''Live at Treorchy'' was recorded at the town's local rugby club, Boyce continued his connection with the sport of rugby union by recording ''We All Had Doctors' Papers'' at Pontarddulais Rugby Club. Max Boyce
Maxwell Boyce, (born 27 September 1943) is a Welsh comedian, singer and entertainer. He rose to fame in the mid-1970s with an act that combined musical comedy with his passion for rugby union and his origins in a South Wales mining community. Boyce's '' We All Had Doctors' Papers'' (1975) remains the only comedy album to have topped the UK Albums Chart and he has sold more than two million albums in a career spanning four decades. Early life Max Boyce was born in Glynneath. His family was originally from Ynyshir in the Rhondda Valley. His mother was Mary Elizabeth Harries. Onllwyn Brace
David Onllwyn Brace (16 November 1932 - 4 July 2013) was a Welsh international scrum-half who played club rugby for Newport and Aberavon. He won nine caps for Wales and would captain the team twice in the early 1960s. Brace was an exciting, unorthodox scrum-half, who epitomised the Welsh flair scrum-half, though his uneven international appearances point towards unhappiness in his match play from the Welsh selectors. Rugby career Brace first played rugby for Aberavon but moved to Newport after the club tried to play him in the unfamiliar role of outside-half to Cliff Ashton. Derwyn Jones
Derwyn Jones (born 14 November 1970, in Carmarthen, Wales) is a former professional Welsh rugby union player and Welsh international. He is the tallest Welsh player to be capped at 6 ft 10 inches tall, and weighed over 20 stone at his peak. Career Jones studied sports science at Loughborough University. Jones made his international debut on Saturday, 26 November 1994 against South Africa in Cardiff aged 24 where Wales lost 20-12. He went on to play in 17 of the next 19 Internationals, earning nineteen caps for Wales. He was notably knocked unconscious from behind by Kobus Wiese at the beginning of a match against South Africa at Ellis Park Stadium in 1995. Wiese was fined and given a three-match ban.
