''Ponmana Selvan'' is a 1989 Indian Tamil-language drama film, directed by P. Vasu. The film stars Vijayakanth, Shobana, Vidhyashree, Gemini Ganesan and B. Saroja Devi. The film's score was composed by Ilaiyaraaja and was released on 15 August 1989. The film was one of the super hits of the year. The film was a remake of the Kannada film '' Karunamayi'' for which Vasu had written the screenplay. Plot Ambalakarar and Meenakshi have four children - Raja, Raghu, Ravi and Radha. Narayanan Vijayaraj Alagarswami (born 25 August 1952), better known by his stage name Vijayakanth, is an Indian politician and former actor who has worked predominantly in Tamil cinema. He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016. Before entering politics Vijayakanth was a successful actor, producer and director. Vijayakanth is also the current DMDK chairman of Tamil Nadu legislative assembly. Nagoor Babu, known by his stage name Mano, is an Indian playback singer, voice-over artist, actor, producer, television anchor and composer. Vasudevan (15 June 1944 – 20 February 2011), known as Malaysia Vasudevan, was a Malaysian-Indian playback singer and actor in Tamil cinema. Early life Malaysia Vasudevan's parents were from Palakkad. Chattu Nair of Ottappalam and Ammalu of Polpulli, along with their families migrated to British Malaya in search of a livelihood. After a few years, Chattu Nair married Ammalu in an arranged marriage. Vasudevan was born on 15 June 1944 as their eighth and youngest child.
