Afrânio Pompílio Gastos Do Amaral
Afrânio Pompílio Gastos do Amaral (1 December 1894 in Belém – 29 November 1982 in São Paulo) was a Brazilian herpetologist. As a youngster, he collected snakes for Augusto Emilio Goeldi (1859-1917). He studied medicine in Salvador, Bahia, later finding employment at the Instituto Butantan in São Paulo. Here, his work involved research and production of anti-venom serum. In 1921 he succeeded Vital Brazil (1865-1950) as director of the Instituto Butantan. Arsénio Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo (1792–1869) was a Portuguese slave trader, freemason, poet and journalist, who was active mainly in Angola and Brazil. Early years Born in Funchal in 1792, Arsénio was the son of illiterate unlucky emigrants forced to return to Madeira after a failed attempt to make their fortune in the Portuguese colony of Brazil; he soon started to work as a mason, like his father, but in 1817 he was arrested in Lisbon for joining a plot aiming to overthrow the king João VI. Embarking for Rio de Janeiro in 1820, he changed his family name - Santos - to the pompous Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo, probably borrowing it from theatre, a juvenile passion. Elvis Pompilio (born 1961) is a Belgian fashion designer who specialises in hats. He was born in Liège to a family of Italian origin. Pompilio entered business in 1987, with a workshop in Brussels where he produced designs for use in fashion shows by marques such as Dior and Valentino. In 1990, he opened a retail store in central Brussels. He later opened a store in Antwerp, followed by branches in Paris and London. His designs are sold in the United States and Japan. Luca Umberto Pompilio (born 16 March 1992) is an Italian footballer. Biography Born in Foggia, Apulia region of southern Italy, Pompilio was a player of Lecce, such as a member of the reserve team in 2008–09 season. He also played for Giovanissimi B team in 2006–07 season, despite usually played by under-14 players. Pompilio was signed by third division Varese in January 2010, where he followed the northern Italy club promoted to the second division of Italy. Numa Pompilio Llona (March 5, 1832 – April 5, 1907) was an Ecuadorian poet, journalist, educator, diplomat, and philosopher. Numa Pompilio Llona was widely read in his time, but today he is mostly forgotten. Biography His father was the Ecuadorian lawyer Dr. Manuel Leocadio de Llona y Rivera, and his mother was Mercedes Echeverri Llados from Colombia. Born in Guayaquil, Numa Pompilio Llona completed primary school in Cali, Colombia, and completed secondary school in Lima, Peru. He received a law degree at the Universidad San Marcos in Lima, Peru. Career From 1854 to 1859, Numa Pompilo Llona was the literary editor of the Peruvian newspaper '' El Comercio''. In 1882 he was appointed the rector of the University of Guayaquil, where he held the professorship of aesthetics and general literature.
