Pollokshaws Football Club was a Scottish association football, football team, based in Pollokshaws, now part of Glasgow (at the time a separate burgh). History The club was founded on 18 April 1884, at a meeting at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, the town hall, as a merger between the Pollok F.C. (1878), Pollok and Sir John Maxwell F.C., Sir John Maxwell clubs; William M'Neil, the match secretary of the Maxwell, was kept on as match secretary for the new club. The club was the second club with the Pollokshaws name, the Pollokshaws F.C. (1876), original club lasting from 1876 to 1878. The new club entered the Scottish Cup and the Renfrewshire Cup for the 1884–85 season. Burnbank is an area in the town of Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It was formerly a separate mining village before being absorbed into the town. Location and governance Burnbank, previously an independent settlement, then part of Hamilton Burgh (in the historic County of Lanarkshire) and then Hamilton District (in the historic Strathclyde Region) is now a district of Hamilton within the South Lanarkshire Unitary Council. Scottish Football Federation
The Scottish Football Federation was an association football competition formed in 1891 which ran for just two seasons. The proposal for a competition came from seven clubs (Falkirk, King's Park, Royal Albert, Glasgow Wanderers, Pollokshaws, Kilmarnock Athletic, and Arthurlie) which had been overlooked for the Scottish League and Scottish Football Alliance. Scottish Football Alliance
The Scottish Football Alliance was a football league football structure set up in Scotland in competition with the Scottish Football League. Its success in the early years of professional football in both England and Scotland made Alliance the basis for a second division in both countries. The alliance attracted a number of Junior clubs to the League system to guarantee its longevity for years to come. 1891–97 Originally founded in 1891 to rival the League, the Scottish Alliance was one of a number of leagues set up a year after the Scottish Football League was formed. The Scottish Football League (SFL) was a league featuring professional and semi-professional association football, football clubs mostly from Scotland.One club, Berwick Rangers F.C., Berwick Rangers, is based in the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is located approximately 4 km south of the Anglo-Scottish border. Glasgow Cup
The Glasgow Cup is a football tournament open to teams from Glasgow, Scotland. Operated by the Glasgow Football Association, it was competed for annually by senior Glasgow clubs from 1887 until 1989. It is now (since the 2019–20 amended rules) competed for between the senior teams of Clyde, Partick Thistle and Queen's Park and the youth teams of Celtic and Rangers, and has used both knockout and round robin formats to determine the finalists. The cup was dominated by the city's Old Firm rivals, Rangers and Celtic, who won the competition 44 times and 29 times respectively (including one shared win) while it was a senior competition. Only five times did the final not feature either Rangers or Celtic (1889, 1915, 1946, 1947, and 1989).
