Kerala is a politically-active society in India, with a politically active and aware population. Many of the news events happening in Kerala is related to the political events happening in the state. Hartals A record total of 223 hartals were observed in 2006. There were around 363 "Hartals", called by different political parties, between 2005 and 2012. Hartals are called for various political, economic and social reasons. Political violence Between 2000 and 2017, Kerala reported at least 80 political murders. The state also reported the third-highest number of murders committed (12) due to political reasons in 2015, according to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data of that year. In the last 17 years, 85 CPM workers, 65 RSS or BJP workers, 11 workers of Congress and IUML each have been killed - mostly by their political rivals. Vyttila Junction - A Harthal Day View
Vyttila, , is an intersection as well as the name of a region in the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. It is the busiest as well as one of the largest intersections in Kerala. This node intersects the main north–south artery of the state of ''Kerala'', namely, the Kochi Bypass, with three city roads of ''Kochi'' viz, the S. A. Road (One of the city's most prominent arterial road in the east–west direction), the ''Vyttila-Petta Road'', and the ''Thammanam Road''. The name ''Vyttila'' is said to be evolved from the word "Vayal Thala" meaning the main part of the paddy field. Once the area including Elamkulam, were paddy fields and paddy cultivation were the main sources of income. The paddy field existed from Ernakulam, Girinagar, Panampilly Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Kumarananshan Nagar and extended to Kaniyampuzha and Panamkutyy bridge.
