Polimeks İnşaat ve Sanayi A.Ş. is a Turkish holding company based in Istanbul. Polimeks, established in 1995 and grew to become one of the world’s leading construction companies, in recent years transformed into a global investment holding with activities in tourism, real estate, and renewable energy sectors. Polimeks primarily operates in Turkey, Russia and The Netherlands. History In January 2013, the company received a contract to build the Ashgabat International Airport. Costing $2.1 billion in labor and operations, this is the largest construction project a Turkish firm has done abroad. In 2007 in Moscow, the company built the first Ritz-Carlton hotel in Russia, on the site of the demolished high-rise hotel Intourist, on Tverskaya Street. Ashgabat International Airport ( tk, Aşgabat halkara howa menzili) , formerly known as Saparmyrat Türkmenbaşy International Airport, is one of five international airports in Turkmenistan. It is located within the city limits of Ashgabat (Ashkhabad). The old airport, with its air traffic control tower and a precision approach runway (12L-30R), opened in 1994 and was named after the country's first president, Saparmyrat Niyazov. The new airport terminal opened in September 2016, after being completely redesigned and rebuilt and after the south runway was moved and lengthened to parallel the north runway. Tverskaya Street ( rus, Тверская улица, p=tvʲɪrˈskajə ˈulʲɪt͡sə), known between 1935 and 1990 as Gorky Street (russian: улица Горького), is the main radial street in Moscow. The Hotel Intourist (russian: гости́ница «Интурист») was a hotel in Moscow, Russia. It was built in 1970 as a hotel exclusively for foreign tourists to the Soviet Union. In 2002, the hotel was closed and demolished. The Carlton Moscow now stands on the site. History The hotel was built in 1970 by the Soviet state-owned travel monopoly Intourist on Tverskaya Street just north of Red Square. It was the tallest reinforced concrete structure in Moscow.
