Aaron Pointer
Aaron Elton Pointer (born April 19, 1942) is an American retired professional baseball player. He played in the major leagues for the Houston Colt .45s/Astros in and again in –. After his baseball career, he was a National Football League official. He is also known for being the brother of the four sisters who form the Pointer Sisters singing group. Biography Early life Pointer is the eldest of six children of Rev. Elton and Sarah Elizabeth Pointer, pastors at the West Oakland Church of God. He is the older brother of Fritz Pointer, a college professor and author, and older brother of Ruth, Anita, Bonnie, and June Pointer of the Pointer Sisters. Joseph Pointer
Joseph Pointer (12 June 1875 – 19 November 1914) was a patternmaker who became a British Labour Party Member of Parliament. Born in the Attercliffe district of Sheffield, Pointer became a convinced socialist early in his life, and joined the Independent Labour Party. He attended Ruskin College in Oxford for six months to study Constitutional History and Sociology. On his return to Sheffield, Pointer took part in a strike, and was thereafter unable to gain regular employment. He was nonetheless elected Chair of the Sheffield Trades Council, and stood unsuccessfully for Sheffield City Council in 1906 and 1907. In 1908, he was finally elected for the Brightside ward. In 1909, J. Batty Langley, Liberal Party MP for Sheffield Attercliffe died, and Pointer stood for the Labour Party in the ensuing by-election. Vena Pointer
Vena Pointer (1880 – 1971), was Colorado's first female water lawyer. She was born in Kansas and moved to Colorado in 1911 after she took a job working in George Wallis' law firm. Throughout her career, Pointer worked as a prominent member of Colorado's water community and served as one of the original board members of the Colorado Water Conservation Board when it was founded in 1937. Career Pointer was the last person in Colorado to be admitted to the bar under the practice of clerkship. Clerkship was a system in which, a person would read the law, rather than attended law school, in preparation for admittance to the bar. Pointer read the law for seven years and passed her examination in 1926, making her Colorado's first female water lawyer. Following her admittance to the bar, Pointer worked with her law partner Fred Sabin in Pueblo, Colorado till his death in 1931. Sir'Dominic Denzel Pointer (born May 6, 1992) is an American professional basketball player for APOEL of the Cyprus Basketball Division A. He played college basketball at St. John's. Harrold Herbert Jory (20 March 1888 – 16 May 1966) , known as Herbert Jory, was a South Australian architect. He was a partner in the leading firm of Woods, Bagot & Jory from 1913, which became Woods, Bagot, Jory & Laybourne Smith from 1915 to 1930, before establishing his own practice, H. H. Jory. Between 1930 and 1940 he partnered with T.A. McAdam, in Jory and McAdam. He designed many churches in South Australia and was noted for his use of the Romanesque elements, sometimes combining them with Modernist ones. Ruth Esther Pointer (born March 19, 1946) is an American singer–songwriter who is best known as the eldest member of the American family vocal group the Pointer Sisters. Career Joining her sisters in 1972, the Pointer Sisters released their first album in 1973. The group eventually found fame with songs like "Yes We Can Can" (1973), their country crossover hit, "Fairytale" (1974) and "How Long (Betcha Got a Chick on the Side)" before Bonnie's exit in 1977. Raymond Pointer (10 October 1936 – 26 January 2016) was a professional association footballer and England international who played as a striker. He had a long and successful playing career, totalling over 400 league appearances whilst playing for Burnley, Bury, Coventry City, Portsmouth and Waterlooville. He won 3 England caps overall whilst at Burnley, scoring 2 goals for his country. He won his first cap on 28 September 1961 in a 4–1 win against Luxembourg. He scored in that match. Priscilla Marie Pointer (born May 18, 1924) is an American retired actress. She began her career in the theater in the late 1940's, including productions on Broadway. Later, Pointer moved to Hollywood and making appearances on television in the early 1950s. She didn't however become a regular screen actress until the 1970's. Michael Pointer (born 22 July 1956) is an English drummer. He is known for his work in the neo-progressive rock bands Marillion and Arena. Away from music, he has also worked as a kitchen designer. Career Pointer was the original drummer and a founding member of Marillion. He appeared on the band's debut EP ''Market Square Heroes'' (1982) and debut LP ''Script for a Jester's Tear'' (1983). He was sacked from the band following the album's UK tour and ultimately replaced by Ian Mosley. June Antoinette Pointer (November 30, 1953 – April 11, 2006) was an American singer, best known as the youngest of the founding members of the vocal group The Pointer Sisters. Early life and career Born the youngest of six children to minister parents Reverend Elton and Sarah Pointer, June shared a love of singing with her sisters. In 1969, she and sister Bonnie founded ''The Pointers – A Pair''. The duo sang at numerous clubs, then became a trio later that year when sister Anita quit her job as a secretary to join them.
