Poetry International Festival
Poetry International Web is an international webzine and a poetry archive put together by a collective body of editors around the world and centrally edited in Rotterdam. It was originally launched in 2002. The site presents poetry from many countries in their original languages and in English translation. The website also publishes journalistic contributions such as essays and interviews on poets and poetry and provides annual media coverage of the Poetry International festival in Rotterdam. It also features audio and video recordings of the poets reading their own work. Poets featured in the archives include John Ashbery, Elizabeth Bishop, Yves Bonnefoy, Joseph Brodsky, Kwame Dawes, Allen Ginsberg, Seamus Heaney, Judith Herzberg, Hiromi Ito, Lali Tsipi Michaeli, Dunya Mikhail, Pablo Neruda, Vikram Seth, Galsan Tschinag, Uljana Wolf and Mario Petrucci. An online magazine is a magazine published on the Internet, through bulletin board systems and other forms of public computer networks. One of the first magazines to convert from a print magazine format to being online only was the computer magazine '' Datamation''. Some online magazines distributed through the World Wide Web call themselves webzines. Dunya Mikhail
Dunya Mikhail (born 1965 in Baghdad, Iraq) is an Iraqi-American poet based in the United States. Life She was born and raised in Iraq to a Chaldean-Catholic family. She graduated with a BA from the University of Baghdad. Mikhail worked as a journalist, as editor of the literary section, and as a translator for '' The Baghdad Observer''. As a liberal writer during the time of dictatorship and censorship, Mikhail fled Iraq in 1995, going first to Jordan and then eventually to the United States, where she became a U.S. citizen, got married, and raised a daughter. She studied Near Eastern Studies and received her MA from Wayne State University. In 2001, she was awarded the United Nations Human Rights Award for Freedom of Writing. Poetry (derived from the Greek '' poiesis'', "making"), also called verse, is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and often rhythmic qualities of language − such as phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre − to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, a prosaic ostensible meaning. Poetry Society
The Poetry Society is a membership organisation, open to all, whose stated aim is "to promote the study, use and enjoyment of poetry". The society was founded in London in February 1909 as the Poetry Recital Society, becoming the Poetry Society in 1912. Its first president was Lady Margaret Sackville. From its current premises in Covent Garden, London, The Poetry Society publishes ''Poetry Review'', Britain's leading poetry magazine. Established in 1912, it provides a forum for poems from both new and established poets. Its current editor is the poet Emily Berry, who succeeded Maurice Riordan in 2017. The magazine's editor from 2005 to 2012 was Fiona Sampson. Poetry Foundation
The Poetry Foundation is an American literary society that seeks to promote poetry and lyricism in the wider culture. It was formed from ''Poetry'' magazine, which it continues to publish, with a 2003 gift of $200 million from philanthropist Ruth Lilly. According to the foundation's website, it is "committed to a vigorous presence for poetry in our culture. It exists to discover and celebrate the best poetry and to place it before the largest possible audience." In partial furtherance of this objective, the foundation runs a blog called ''Harriet''. Radio Netherlands
Radio Netherlands (RNW; nl, Radio Nederland Wereldomroep) was a public radio and television network based in Hilversum, producing and transmitting programmes for international audiences outside the Netherlands from 1947 to 2012. Its services in Dutch ended on 10 May 2012. English and Indonesian language services ceased on 29 June 2012 due to steep budget cuts imposed by the Dutch government and a concomitant change in focus. Mario Petrucci
Mario Petrucci (born 1958) is a poet, literary translator, educator and broadcaster. He was born in Lambeth, London and trained as a physicist at Selwyn College in the University of Cambridge and later completed a PhD in vacuum crystal growth at University College London. He is also an ecologist, having a BA in Environmental Science from Middlesex University. Petrucci was the first poet to be resident at the Imperial War Museum and with BBC Radio 3. In 2022, he was invited by the Society of Authors to judge the John Florio Prize for Italian translation. His first major collection, ''Shrapnel and Sheets'' (1996), won a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. He has been much involved in radio broadcasting and in the educational sector, in creative writing and literary mentoring. Uljana Wolf
Uljana Wolf is a German poet and translator (from English and Polish) known for exploring multilingualism in her work. Wolf works in both Berlin and New York. She teaches German at New York University. Uljana Wolf was born in East Berlin in 1979. She studied German Studies, cultural studies and English Literature in Berlin and Krakow. Galsan Tschinag (, mn, Чинаагийн Галсан, translit=Qinaagiin Galsan, , , born Irgit Şınıkay oğlu Çuruk-Uvaa ( tyv, Иргит Шыныкай оглу Чурук-Уваа, ), 26 December 1944 in Bayan-Ölgii Province, Mongolia), is a Mongolian writer of novels, poems, and essays in the German language, though he hails from a Tuvans, Tuvan background. Vikram Seth
Vikram Seth (born 20 June 1952) is an Indian novelist and poet. He has written several novels and poetry books. He has won several awards such as Padma Shri, Sahitya Academy Award, Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, WH Smith Literary Award and Crossword Book Award.
