Poco
Poco was an American country rock band originally formed in 1968 after the demise of Buffalo Springfield. Guitarists Richie Furay and Jim Messina, former members of Buffalo Springfield, were joined by multi-instrumentalist Rusty Young, bassist Randy Meisner, and drummer George Grantham. Meisner quit the band whilst they were recording their first album, '' Pickin' Up the Pieces'', though his bass and backing vocal parts were kept in the final mix. He was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit in 1969, and Messina left in 1970 to be replaced by Paul Cotton. The line-up would change numerous times over the next several decades, with Rusty Young being the only constant member. A reunion of the founding members occurred in the late 1980s-early 1990s, and the band has continued in some form through 2021, though they retired from active touring in 2013, with Young citing health concerns as the primary cause of his retirement. Young died from a heart attack in April 2021. To date, the ...

ABC Records
ABC Records was an American record label founded in New York City in 1955. It originated as the main popular music label operated by the Am-Par Record Corporation. Am-Par also created the Impulse! jazz label in 1960. It acquired many labels before ABC was sold to MCA Records in 1979. ABC produced music in a variety of genres: pop, rock, jazz, country, rhythm and blues, soundtrack, gospel, and polka. In addition to producing records, ABC licensed masters from independent record producers, and purchased regionally released records for national distribution. The label was initially called Am-Par Records (1955), but quickly changed to ABC-Paramount Records (1955–1966), and then renamed ABC Records in 1966. History Background In the 1940s and early 1950s, the Federal Communications Commission took action against the Anti-competitive practices of movie studios and broadcasting companies, forcing the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) to sell the Blue Network, the sister network ...

Legacy (Poco Album)
''Legacy'' is a studio album by the American country rock band Poco, released in 1989. The album reunited the five original members of the group; they had never recorded together. It contained two top-40 singles, "Call It Love" and "Nothin' to Hide". ''Legacy'' was the second Poco album to be certified gold. Critical reception The ''Vancouver Sun'' wrote that the album "eschews the simple beauty of ichieFuray's work with the Springfield for the slick, sappy MOR sound of '70s California country rock." Track listing Original vinyl LP #"When It All Began" (Steve Pasch, Anthony "M." Krizan, Richie Furay, Scott Sellen) – 3:36 #"Call It Love" (Ron Gilbeau, Billy Crain, Rick Lonow, Jim Messina) – 4:17 #"The Nature of Love" (Jeff Silbar, Tommy Stephenson) – 4:03 #"What Do People Know" ( Rusty Young) – 3:52 #"Follow Your Dreams" (Messina) – 2:56 #"Rough Edges" (Young, Radney Foster, Bill Lloyd) – 3:08 #"Nothin’ to Hide" (Richard Marx, Bruce Gaitsch) – 5:12 #"Who Else" (Y ...

Inamorata (album)
''Inamorata'' is the sixteenth studio album by the country rock band Poco, released in 1984. Featuring guest spots by former members Timothy B. Schmitt, Richie Furay and George Grantham (the only member missing from the classic years line up was Jim Messina), this would be the last album that the band would record for Atlantic Records. After this the original line up (Richie Furay, Rusty Young, Jim Messina, Randy Meisner and George Grantham) would reform for the 1989 release ''Legacy''.Legend: Poco by Jerry Fuentes (2009-12-1) Reception In his Allmusic review, music critic Rob Theakston wrote, "Armed with an armada of fresh ideas and a bright new overly chorused synthesizer, Poco all but abandons their country-rock roots in favor of a reverb heavy electronic drum kit, bright synths, and production that has not aged well. Even guest appearances by Poco alumni Timothy B. Schmit and Zappa drummer Vinnie Colaiuta can't save the group from serving up a lackluster and forgettable ten- ...

Atlantic Records
Atlantic Recording Corporation (simply known as Atlantic Records) is an American record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. Over its first 20 years of operation, Atlantic earned a reputation as one of the most important American labels, specializing in jazz, R&B, and soul by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave, Ruth Brown and Otis Redding. Its position was greatly improved by its distribution deal with Stax. In 1967, Atlantic became a wholly owned subsidiary of Warner Bros.-Seven Arts, now the Warner Music Group, and expanded into rock and pop music with releases by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Led Zeppelin, and Yes. In 2004, Atlantic and its sister label Elektra were merged into the Atlantic Records Group. Craig Kallman is the chairman of Atlantic. Ghost Town (Poco Album)
''Ghost Town'' is the fifteenth studio album by the country rock band Poco, released September 20, 1982. The Atlantic Records label debut of Poco, ''Ghost Town'' was the final album by Poco to feature the group lineup who had played on Poco's 1978 breakout album ''Legend'', as the 1984 Poco album release '' Inamorata'' would not feature Charlie Harrison. After the gold certified success of the 1978 ABC Records album release ''Legend'', Poco's three subsequent album releases on MCA Records - who had absorbed ABC - failed to reach that level of success. ''Ghost Town'' marked Poco's move to Atlantic Records with no resultant comeback peaking at #195 on the album chart in ''Billboard'' magazine, well below the peak of the group's final MCA album ''Cowboys & Englishmen'' which had been released in February 1982 to reach a chart peak of #131. The first single from ''Ghost Town'' was the title cut which failed to reach the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100, "bubbling under" with a peak of #1 ...

Cowboys & Englishmen
''Cowboys & Englishmen'' is the fourteenth studio album by the American country rock band Poco. The Young-penned "Feudin'" was nominated for a Grammy in 1982 for Best Country Instrumental Performance. Largely made up of cover songs the album was Poco's last for MCA and reflected the fact that it was a contractual obligation album. When ABC Records was sold to MCA the new label A&R department showed little effort in promoting the band and, as a result, the band fielded offers from other labels once their contract was up and signed with Atlantic Records for their next two albums ''Ghost Town'' and ''Inamorata''.Legend: Poco by Jerry Fuentes (2009-12-1) Reception In his AllMusic review, music critic William Ruhlmann wrote, "A throwaway effort at a time when their career needed rejuvenation, not another wound." Track listing #"Sea of Heartbreak" (Paul Hampton, Hal David) – 3:44 #"No Relief in Sight" ( Rory Bourke, Eugene Dobbins, Johnny Wilson) – 3:10 #"There Goes My Heart" ...

Blue And Gray (album)
''Blue and Gray'' is the thirteenth studio album by the American country rock band Poco, released in 1981. The album is a theme-based record, similar to ''Desperado'' by The Eagles, only the theme on this record is the American Civil War. The band scored minor chart success with "Widowmaker". The colors in the title refer to United States Army and Confederate States Army uniforms of the period, respectively. Reception In his Allmusic review, music critic Bruce Eder wrote, "this isn't a bad album, and at least benefits from more energy and ambition than its immediate predecessor, '' Under the Gun''. There's some fine playing throughout and generally good singing, and some of the writing is inspired, although there are some lapses into lightweight, unmemorable fare also. A little more consistency might have lofted this album to the level of the band's best recent work, but it's still worth hearing as one of the more ambitious records ever to come from this long-lived country-ro ...

MCA Records
MCA Records was an American record label owned by MCA Inc., which later became part of Universal Music Group. Pre-history MCA Inc., a powerful talent agency and a television production company, entered the recorded music business in 1962 with the purchase of the New York-based US Decca Records (established in 1934), including Coral Records and Brunswick Records. MCA was forced to exit the talent agency business in order to complete the merger. As American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into a top film studio, producing several hits. In 1966, MCA formed Uni Records and in 1967, purchased Kapp Records which was placed under Uni Records management. History The early years In 1937, the owner of Decca, E. R. Lewis, chose to split off the UK Decca company from the US company (keeping his US Decca holdings), fearing the financial damage that would arise for UK Companies if the emerging hostilities of Nazi Germany should lead t ...

Under The Gun (Poco Album)
''Under the Gun'' is the twelfth studio album by the American country rock band Poco. Released in July 1980, ''Under the Gun'' was the follow-up to Poco's breakout album ''Legend''. Background Poco's successful album, ''Legend'', had been released in November 1978 on ABC Records just prior to that label being bought out by MCA: in a June 7, 2013, interview with Rockin' Rich Lynch of SoundPress.net Radio Network, veteran Poco member Paul Cotton would state that MCA required that Poco audition prior to being allowed to record for MCA. Cotton said, "We had to go over to a rehearsal hall and play in front of all the executives" who after hearing Poco perform "Under the Gun", a Paul Cotton composition referencing the pressure attendant on the audition, approved Poco's recording for MCA. Released at the same time as the album, the "Under the Gun" single failed to reach the Top 40 stalling at No. 48 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100: another Paul Cotton composition "Midnight Rain" also fail ...
