Singapore Po Leung Kuk
The Singapore Po Leung Kuk ( zh, s=保良局) was an institution in Singapore for women and girls who were victims of forced prostitution. The Po Leung Kuk was established by the Chinese Protectorate in 1888, after a similar institution, Po Leung Kuk was founded in Hong Kong in 1878. History It began as a single room with six beds and was meant for permanent juvenile residents. This was expanded to 120 beds in 1896, with new accommodation in 1928 providing for 300 residents. Beginning in 1931, accommodation was provided for in the Mental Hospital for 'moral imbeciles and feeble-minded girls' unsuitable for accommodation in a Po Leung Kuk Home. Penang Po Leung Kuk
The Penang Po Leung Kuk was founded in 1889 by Foo Tye Sin, Koh Seang Tat, Khaw Sim Bee, Ong Boon Teik and Ong Beng Teik. The Penang Po Leung Kuk was the first Anglo-Chinese welfare organisation in Penang dedicated to protecting Chinese female immigrants from exploitation and sexploitation. The organization was based on the Po Leung Kuk in Hong Kong, which was founded in 1878. The Po Leung Kuk homes in Singapore, Malacca and Penang were controlled by committees of Chinese gentlemen, and financed by endowment funds raised from public subscriptions. The Penang Cheshire Home was set up in 1978, in a wing of the former Penang Po Leung Kuk Home. Po Leung Kuk Museum
The Po Leung Kuk Museum (), or Po Leung Kuk Archives is a museum and an archive housed in the Main Building of Po Leung Kuk's Headquarters, located at 66 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. The museum consists of the Old Hall, the Exhibition Hall, the Archives Office, the Research Room and two Archival Conservation Rooms. The Old Hall and the Exhibition Hall are opened to the public. Primary Mathematics World Contest
The Primary Mathematics World Contest or PMWC takes place every year in Hong Kong. It was first held in 1997, and is sponsored by the Po Leung Kuk organization. The competition has attracted teams from around the world. Each team consists of 4 members, all of whom must be 13 or younger as of September 1, and must not be enrolled in a secondary institution (or the equivalent). However, the 13th Primary Mathematics World Contest (2009) was canceled due to the WHO declaring the Influenza A virus subtype H1N1 a pandemic. A similar event occurred in the 7th Primary Mathematics World Contest (2003) where the committee postponed the contest to November 2003 due to SARS. Po Leung Kuk Vicwood K. T. Chong Sixth Form College (KTC) is a government-subsidised sixth form college in Yau Tsim Mong District, Kowloon, Hong Kong. John Pope Hennessy
Sir John Pope Hennessy (; 8 August 1834 – 7 October 1891), was an Irish and British politician and colonial administrator who served as the eighth Governor of Hong Kong and the fifteenth Governor of Mauritius. Early life John Pope Hennessy was born in County Cork in 1834, the son of John Hennessy of Ballyhennessy and his wife Elizabeth Casey. He was one of eight children. The family were middle class with his father working as a hide merchant. He suffered from bronchitis as a child and was therefore initially privately tutored. In 1850 he entered Queen's College, Cork, initially studying in the science division of the faculty of arts. During his first year he was awarded a scholarship as he was one of the top three students, and this allowed him to transfer to medicine.
