Plymouth Pronto
The Plymouth Pronto was a small concept car released in 1997 by Plymouth. The design was modern for its time along with several retro-style touches. The front of the Pronto resembled that of the Plymouth Prowler. The Pronto also featured a roll-back fabric top. The Pronto never went into production, but its design inspired two more concept cars, the Plymouth Pronto Spyder and the Plymouth Pronto Cruizer (neither ever saw production). The Pronto's design also inspired that of the Chrysler PT Cruiser, which went into production in 2001. Plymouth (automobile)
Plymouth was a brand of automobiles produced by Chrysler, Chrysler Corporation and its successor Mercedes-Benz Group, DaimlerChrysler. The brand was launched in 1928 to compete in what was then described as the "low-priced" market segment that was dominated by Chevrolet and Ford Motor Company, Ford. It became a high-volume seller for the automaker until the late 1990s. Plymouth cars were marketed primarily in the United States. The brand was withdrawn from the marketplace in 2001. The Plymouth models that were produced up to then were either discontinued or rebranded as Chrysler or Dodge. Plymouth Prowler
The Plymouth Prowler, later the Chrysler Prowler, is a retro-styled production sports car manufactured and marketed from 1997 to 2002 by DaimlerChrysler, based on the 1993 concept car of the same name. The Prowler was offered in a single generation in a front-engine, rear-drive, rear-transmission configuration—with an overall production of 11,702. Design Chrysler engineers were given free rein to design whatever they wanted in a "hot rod" or "sportster" type vehicle. Chrysler's design and international director Thomas C. Gale said his "love for 1930s-era hot rods inspired Chrysler's latest design triumph, the retro-styled Plymouth Prowler." Gale, who has a hotted up 1932 Ford in his garage approved the hotrod-inspired Plymouth Prowler as the company's follow-up show-stopper to the Dodge Viper. Plymouth Pronto Spyder
The Plymouth Pronto Spyder was a 2-door roadster concept that debuted in 1998, using a mid-mounted, turbocharged, 2.4 L, , 4-cylinder engine and a five-speed manual transmission. Styled to recall European roadsters, the Pronto Spyder's bodywork used lightweight recycled materials, largely polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, over a steel chassis. The vehicle weighed . Plymouth Pronto Cruizer
The Chrysler Pronto Cruizer was a concept car designed by Bryan Nesbitt for Chrysler (division), Chrysler—a design that ultimately evolved into the Chrysler PT Cruiser. Overview The Pronto Cruizer debuted at the 1999 Geneva Auto Show as a possible Plymouth (automobile), Plymouth model—as with other "Pronto" concepts, the 1997 Plymouth Pronto and 1998 Plymouth Pronto Spyder. The Pronto Cruizer became a Chrysler due to the planned discontinuation of the Plymouth marque. The vehicle carries a 1.6 L Straight-4, I4 engine with a five-speed manual transmission borrowed from the second generation Dodge Neon, Dodge/Plymouth Neon. The design was also derived from the Neon, but with elements borrowed from another DaimlerChrysler concept car, the Plymouth Pronto. Chrysler PT Cruiser
The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a retro-styled compact car manufactured and marketed internationally by Chrysler in 5-door hatchback wagon (2001–2010) and 2-door convertible (2005–2008) body styles—over a single generation, with an intermediate facelift for model year 2006. Evoking 1930s styling, the exterior of the PT Cruiser was designed by Bryan Nesbitt. Plymouth () is a port city status in the United Kingdom, city and unitary authority in South West England.
