Plux Quba
''Plux Quba: Música Para 70 Serpentes'' (''Music for 70 Serpents''), frequently shortened to ''Plux Quba'', is the sole studio album by Portuguese experimental musician Nuno Canavarro. Originally released on the private press label Ama Rementa in 1988, it was expanded and reissued in 1998. ''Plux Quba'' consists of pieces based around sparse, electronically processed tones and heavily treated spoken word samples. It was released to very little initial reception, and would not see distribution outside of Portugal until it was reissued in 1998 by the record label Moikai. Following the re-release, it gradually gained a following for its innovative sound, and has been considered a precursor to the development of the Intelligent dance music, IDM and glitch (music), glitch music styles. Nuno Canavarro
Nuno Canavarro (born 15 November 1962) is a Portugal, Portuguese composer. He studied architecture in Oporto. He learned to play piano at a very young age and was in a band called the Street Kids. He also played with the famous Portuguese band Delfins, and with Carlos Maria Trindade (Madredeus, Heróis do Mar (band), Heróis do Mar). He is also responsible for the 1988 experimental music recording: ''Plux Quba''. This record was a strong influence on the sound of many w:Postmodern music, postmodern electronic musicians, including Mouse on Mars and Jim O'Rourke (musician), Jim O'Rourke. O'Rourke re-released ''Plux Quba'' on his own Moikai label in 1999. ''Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives'' is a 2001 studio album by Guillermo Scott Herren, the first released under the name Prefuse 73. The album was released on June 11, 2001 on Warp. The music was created by Herren alone, with some tracks featuring guest vocals from MCs Mikah 9, MF Doom and Aesop Rock as well as vocalist Sam Prekop from The Sea and Cake. Inspired by Miami bass and early 90s hip hop, Herren had been recording music with his Music Production Center (MPC) for Schematic Records, a label known primarily for intelligent dance music (IDM). The Sea And Cake
The Sea and Cake is an American indie rock band with a jazz influence, based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The group formed in the mid-1990s from members of The Coctails (Archer Prewitt), Shrimp Boat (Sam Prekop and Eric Claridge), and Tortoise (John McEntire); the group's name came from a willful reinterpretation (as the result of an accidental miscomprehension) of "The C in Cake", a song by Gastr del Sol. Starting with 1997's '' The Fawn'', the group has relied on electronic sound sources, such as drum machines and synthesizers, to color its music, but has retained its distinctive post-jazz combo style. Sam Prekop (born October 18, 1964) is an American musician in the band The Sea and Cake. He also has released five solo albums. Early life Prekop was born in London, but grew up in Chicago. He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute. Career Shrimp Boat Back in Chicago, Prekop formed the band Shrimp Boat, which was active from 1988 to 1993. The Sea and Cake After Shrimp Boat dissolved in 1993, Sam Prekop and Eric Claridge formed The Sea and Cake, and recruited Archer Prewitt and John McEntire. Solo career Prekop enlisted the help of Jim O'Rourke (X-Factor) to produce his self-titled first solo album in 1999. Daniel Lopatin (born July 25, 1982), best known as Oneohtrix Point Never or OPN, is an American experimental electronic music producer, composer, singer and songwriter. His music has experimented with tropes from various music genres and eras, sample-based song structures, and elaborate MIDI production. Christian Fennesz (born 25 December 1962) is an Austrian producer and guitarist active in electronic music since the 1990s, often credited simply by his last name. His work utilizes guitar and laptop computers to blend melody with treated samples and glitch production. He lives and works in Vienna, and currently records on the UK label Touch. Fennesz first received widespread recognition for his 2001 album '' Endless Summer'', released on the Austrian label Mego.
