Plunket College Of Further Education
Plunket College of Further Education is a school in Whitehall, Dublin, established in 1967. Originally it was a vocational secondary school for boys, with preparation for the Group, Intermediate and Leaving Certificate, it has developed into a co-educational school focusing on the senior cycle and developing more post-leaving certificate courses in recent years. It is run by the City of Dublin Education and Training Board which replaced the Vocational Education Committee. As well as Leaving Certificate two and one-year programmes, the college runs post leaving certificate programmes, pre-apprenticeship, Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) and Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) courses. An Education and Training Board (ETB) ( ga, Bord Oideachais agus Oiliúna) is one of sixteen statutory local education bodies that deliver a wide range of education services in the Republic of Ireland. ETBs manage a large number of secondary schools, further education colleges and training centres, multi-faith primary schools (Community National Schools) and adult education centres throughout the country. They deliver a growing number of apprenticeships and traineeships across the State. Originating from the Education and Training Boards Act of 2013, ETBs came into existence on 1 July 2013, when they replaced the existing system of Vocational Education Committees (VECs) that had been in place since 1930. Whitehall () is a Northside suburb of Dublin City, Ireland. Whitehall is a residential area on the northern outskirts of Dublin's inner city, located near the M1 motorway leading to Dublin Airport, Swords and Belfast. It's situated between the suburbs of Santry, Drumcondra and Glasnevin. North of Whitehall, the M1 motorway begins at its junction with the M50, past the Dublin Port Tunnel's northern entrance. The area is adjacent to the major public Beaumont Hospital and to Dublin City University on Collins Avenue. Etymology Whitehall takes its name from a house named White Hall, formerly located to the south of the village on Drumcondra Road Upper. Junior Certificate
Junior Cycle ( ga, An tSraith Shóisearach ) is the first stage of the education programme for post-primary education within the Republic of Ireland. It is overseen by the State Examinations Commission of the Department of Education, the State Examinations Commission and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA). The new specifications and curriculum reforms eventually replaced the Junior Certificate (first introduced in 1992). The new specifications (formally curriculum) have been introduced on a gradual phased basis since 2014, and was completed in 2022. The ''Junior Cycle Student Award'' is issued to students who have successfully completed their post-primary education and achieved a minimum standard in their Junior Cycle Assessments and Examinations. Vocational Education Committee
A Vocational Education Committee (VEC) ( ga, Coiste Gairmoideachais) was a statutory local education body in Ireland that administered some secondary education, most adult education and a very small amount of primary education in the state. Before 1992 VECs had authority over the Dublin Institute of Technology and the Regional Technical Colleges. They existed from 1930 to 2013, when they were replaced by Education and Training Boards. Establishment VECs were originally created by the Vocational Education Act 1930, as successors to the Technical Instruction Committees established by the Agriculture and Technical Instruction (Ireland) Act 1899. The original purpose of the committees was to administer continuation and technical education for 14- to 16-year-olds.
