Pledis Entertainment () is a South Korean entertainment company founded by Han Sung-Soo in 2007. The label is home to actress Nana, Hwang Min-hyun, Baekho, and K-pop groups Seventeen and Fromis 9. Its name originates from the pleiades, a star cluster in the constellation Taurus. On May 25, 2020, Hybe Corporation became the majority shareholder of Pledis Entertainment, subdivision of Hybe Corp., as an independent label. History 2007–2012: Founding and early artists Pledis Entertainment was founded in 2007. Son Dam-bi was the first artist to debut under Pledis, and was dubbed the 'female Rain' by media outlets. In its beginning stages, the agency did not have management premises, only a practice room. In January 2009, Pledis debuted its first girl group, After School. A sub-unit of After School called Orange Caramel was formed in 2010, consisting of members Nana, Lizzy and Raina. After School (band)
After School (Hangul: 애프터스쿨) is a South Korean girl group with an admissions and graduation concept formed by Pledis Entertainment. As of December 2019, After School only has one member under the label. According to the group's website however, Raina, Lizzy, E-Young and Kaeun are still members of the group. After School officially debuted in January 2009 with the song "AH!" from the single album '' New Schoolgirl''. Following the addition of Uee in April of that year, they released "Diva", which won the "Rookie of the Month" award at the Cyworld Digital Music Awards. Pledis Entertainment then announced the graduation of Soyoung before adding Raina and Nana for the release of " Because of You", which topped the monthly digital chart for December 2009. Yoo Ara
Yoo Ara (born September 26, 1992) is a South Korean singer and actress, known for her work as a former member of the South Korean girl group Hello Venus. Career Pre-debut Ara was part of a training program, called 'Pre-School Girls', that would eventually become a member of sister group After School, but was chosen to be the leader of Hello Venus instead. She sang the chorus for the 1st Happy Pledis single, “Love Love Love”. She also sang and appeared in the music video "Love Letter". Baekho (singer)
Kang Dong-ho (; born July 21, 1995), better known by the stage name Baekho (), is a South Korean singer, songwriter and television personality. He began his professional career in 2012 as a main vocalist of the South Korean boy group NU'EST. He is currently signed under Pledis Entertainment, debuting as a solo artist with the release of his first extended play ''Absolute Zero'' on October 12, 2022. Career Pre-debut Baekho became a Pledis Entertainment trainee after being scouted by the company in 2010. He became better known after he appeared in After School's music video for the single "Play Ur Love". Hello Venus
Hello Venus (; often stylized as HELLOVENUS) was a South Korean girl group formed by Tricell Media (formerly a joint venture between Pledis Entertainment and Fantagio). The group originally consisted of: Alice, Nara, Lime, Yooara, Yoonjo and Yooyoung. They debuted with the lead single "Venus" from their debut extended play of the same name on 9 May 2012. In July 2014, Fantagio and Pledis ended their Tricell Media joint ventures. Yooara and Yoonjo remained under Pledis, with the other four members continuing their group activities under Fantagio. Fromis 9 (; stylized as fromis_9) is a South Korean girl group formed by CJ E&M through the 2017 reality show '' Idol School''. The group is composed of eight members: Roh Ji-sun, Song Ha-young, Lee Sae-rom, Lee Chae-young, Lee Na-gyung, Park Ji-won, Lee Seo-yeon and Baek Ji-heon. Originally a nine-piece group, Jang Gyu-ri departed the group on July 31, 2022. Hwang Min-hyun
Hwang Min-hyun (; born August 9, 1995), known mononymously as Minhyun, is a South Korean singer, songwriter and actor. He began his professional career in 2012 as a lead vocalist of the South Korean boy group NU'EST. In 2017, he participated in second season of Produce 101 and finished ninth place, becoming a member of Wanna One. Following Wanna One's disbandment, Hwang re-joins NU'EST until 2022. He is currently a solo artist and actor signed under Pledis Entertainment. Son Dam-bi (; born September 25, 1983) is a South Korean singer, actress and entertainer. She began her career as a solo singer in 2007. NU'EST (; short for New Establish Style Tempo) was a South Korean boy band formed and managed by Pledis Entertainment. The group consisted of five members: JR, Aron, Baekho, Minhyun and Ren. ''Happy Pledis 2nd Album'' is a charity single by the South Korean music label Pledis Entertainment's artists Son Dam-bi, Kahi, After School, NU'EST's JR and Baekho, Hello Venus's Yoo Ara and Lime and Pre-School Girl Park Jung-hyun. The album was released under the name ''Happy Pledis 2nd Album'' and is a charity release. Orange Caramel () is the first subgroup of South Korean girl group After School. The subgroup was formed in 2010 with the third generation After School members Nana, Raina, and Lizzy. As of December 2019, Orange Caramel only has one member under the label. According to the group's website however, Raina and Lizzy are still members of the group. She is best known as a former member of the South Korean girl group After School and member of the sub-unit Orange Caramel.
