Charles Richard Robins
Charles Richard Robins (November 25, 1928 – November 12, 2020) was an American academic, environmentalist and ichthyologist. Early life and university Robins was born on November 25, 1928 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Helen Ayers Robins and Claude Revere Robins, a jewellery wholesaler (and eventual Mayor of Harrisburg), who was their third and final child. As a child Robins developed an interest in natural history, particularly birds. This early ornithological interest was apparently encouraged by George M. Sutton, the Pennsylvania State Ornithologist. Robins enjoyed the writings of the celebrated ornithologist Arthur Augustus Allen of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Robins wanted to study under Allen, so he went to Cornell in 1946, However, by that time the biology department had begun to move from concentrating on ornithology to ichthyology led by Edward C. Fish
Fish are aquatic, craniate, gill-bearing animals that lack limbs with digits. Included in this definition are the living hagfish, lampreys, and cartilaginous and bony fish as well as various extinct related groups. Approximately 95% of living fish species are ray-finned fish, belonging to the class Actinopterygii, with around 99% of those being teleosts. Serranidae
The Serranidae are a large family of fishes belonging to the order Perciformes. The family contains about 450 species in 65 genera, including the sea basses and the groupers (subfamily Epinephelinae). Although many species are small, in some cases less than , the giant grouper (''Epinephelus lanceolatus'') is one of the largest bony fishes in the world, growing to in length and in weight. Representatives of this group live in tropical and subtropical seas worldwide.
