Playing For Keeps (album)
''Playing for Keeps'' is the third studio album by American rock musician Eddie Money, released in July 1980, by Wolfgang Records and Columbia Records. It continues the expansion to include pop oriented tracks that began with the previous album. The inclusion of the reggae-influenced "Running Back" as well as the syrupy duet " Let's Be Lovers Again" with Valerie Carter are indicative of the attempt to maintain rocker status and successfully migrate into the pop charts at the same time. Several of the tracks were written in conjunction with band member Randy Nichols who toured and recorded with Money at the time. "Get a Move On"- also featured on the soundtrack from '' Americathon'' - received AOR airplay as did "Trinidad", but the singles chosen for release didn't stir much excitement with reviewers or radio. Edward Joseph Mahoney (March 21, 1949 – September 13, 2019), known professionally as Eddie Money, was an American singer and songwriter who, in the 1970s and 1980s, had eleven Top 40 songs, including "Baby Hold On", "Two Tickets to Paradise", " Think I'm in Love", " Shakin'", " Take Me Home Tonight", " I Wanna Go Back", " Walk on Water", and " The Love in Your Eyes". Critic Neil Genzlinger of ''The New York Times'' called him a working-class rocker and Kristin Hall of the Associated Press stated he had a husky voice. Gary Mallaber (born October 11, 1946 in Buffalo) is a Los Angeles session drummer, percussionist and singer. He attended Lafayette High School, where he and Bobby Militello, along with other musicians, were mentored by saxophonist Sam Scamacca. Mallaber got his start playing drums in a Buffalo band known as Raven. Mallaber was the drummer-percussionist and backing singer for the 1980s band Kid Lightning, who released an album with Gerard McMahon in 1981 entitled '' Blue Rue''. Mallaber plays keyboards and sings on many albums by well-known rock artists. James Douglas Lyon (born May 22, 1955) is an American rock guitarist. He is known primarily as the guitarist for Eddie Money in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and as a member of The Greg Kihn Band in the early 1990s. Career Jimmy Lyon was a guitar prodigy in California's Central Valley. He was discovered by Bill Graham, and paired with vocalist Eddie Money (another Graham discovery). Lyon was the lone guitarist on Eddie Money's first two albums, ''Eddie Money'' and '' Life for the Taking''. He was the lead guitarist on the albums '' Playing for Keeps'' and '' No Control''. Greg Douglass (born 1949 in Oakland, California, United States) is an American rock guitarist. Career Douglass started his musical career in the late 1960s with his band The Virtues, which later turned into the acid-rock group Country Weather. He came in contact with Van Morrison and Jefferson Airplane spin-off band Hot Tuna and ended up touring with both of them. After his departure from Hot Tuna, Douglass founded the group Terry & the Pirates. He got in contact with Steve Miller Band bassist Lonnie Turner in 1977 and co-wrote the song " Jungle Love" as well as playing on Miller's tenth studio album, '' Book of Dreams''.
