Playa Azul (''en: Blue Beach'') is a beachside town in the Mexican state of Michoacán. The city lives from tourism and fishing. It is the southern terminus of Federal Highway 37, which connects it with the state of San Luis Potosí. The town was the epicentre of the Playa Azul earthquake, a magnitude 7.2 ( 7.3) quake that struck on 24 October 1981. Lázaro Cárdenas () is a port city in Michoacán bordered to the east by Guerrero. Lázaro Cárdenas is located in the southern part of the Mexican state of Michoacán. Federal Highway 37 ( es, Carretera Federal 37, Fed. 37) is a free part of the federal highways corridors ( es, los corredores carreteros federales) of Mexico. The highway runs from Villa de Zaragoza, San Luis Potosí at its northern point to Playa Azul, Michoacán, located near the Pacific Ocean, at its southern point, near the port city of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán. The 1981 Playa Azul earthquake occurred on October 24, 1981, at 21:22 local time (03:22 UTC on October 25). It was located near Playa Azul, Michoacán, Mexico. The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.2, or 7.3. Three deaths were reported, two from Michoacán and one from Mexico City. Some buildings were damaged in both Michoacán and Mexico City.
