PlayPenn
PlayPenn is a new play development conference located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Paul Meshejian is the Founding Artistic Director of the organization, which works with playwrights to develop new plays in a collaborative workshop environment. Since PlayPenn's first conference in 2005, the organization has been hosting annual July conferences in Philadelphia, where invited playwrights work with actors, directors, dramaturgs and designers to rehearse, revise and develop their new scripts in workshops. The conference includes free public readings of the plays, as well as forums and symposia. PlayPenn has helped develop over 140 new plays, 60% of which have become over 350 full productions at theater companies in the United States and abroad. Lila Rose Kaplan
Lila Rose Kaplan (born July 1, 1980 in New York, NY) is a 21st-century American playwright. She currently lives in Somerville, MA, where she was a Huntington Playwriting Fellow with the Huntington Theatre Company (2012-2014) as well as a Next Voices Playwriting Fellow with New Repertory Theatre (2015-2016). Kaplan's plays, which include comedies, dramas, and musicals for young people, "shine light on the stories we don't tell about women... the heroines we don't often see on stage." Lauren Yee ( zh, 余秀菊) is an American playwright. Early life and education Yee was born and raised in San Francisco, California. She graduated from Lowell High School in 2003. Yee graduated from Yale University in 2007, majoring in English and Theatre Arts. She then attended University of California, San Diego's MFA playwriting program. Among Yee's biggest influences are her great-grandparents who migrated to America from China during the era when the Chinese Exclusion Act was in effect. To circumnavigate this they would migrate through Mexico across the Southern border to America and up to San Francisco. In addition, her father, Larry, inspired her to write two plays, these being "The Great Leap," and "King of the Yees." Both of these plays draw directly from her Chinese American History. Willy Holtzman
Willy Holtzman (born 1951) is an American playwright and screenwriter, often focusing on theatrical representations of actual historical events. Holtzman has received two Pulitzer Prize nominations, a Humanitas Prize, a Writers Guild Award, a Peabody Award, as well as an HBO Award at the National Playwrights Conference.
