Platte City, Missouri
Platte City is a city in and the county seat of Platte County, Missouri within the United States. The population was 4,691 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. History Platte City was founded by Zadock "Zed" Martin and was incorporated as a city in September 1843. On December 16, 1861, Colonel W. James Morgan's Union Squad razed Platte City, including the courthouse. The Platte County Fair held annually just outside Platte City began in 1863 and is the oldest continuously operating fair west of the Mississippi River. Farley is a village in Platte County, Missouri, within the United States, along the Platte River. The population was 269 at the 2010 census. It lies within the Kansas City metropolitan area. History A post office called Farley has been in operation since 1852. The community has the name of Joseph Farley, the original owner of the land where the village now is located. In Farley on August 20, 1900, Sheriff John H. Dillingham responded to a double homicide with two deputies. On Main Street, Sheriff John Dillingham encountered the murderer, Dr. Sterling Price Harrington who was the town's doctor. Dr. Harrington and Sheriff Dillingham were friends and related by marriage. Conception Junction is a city in Nodaway County, Missouri, United States, near the Platte River. The population was 198 at the 2010 census, at which time it was a town. History New Conception was laid out in 1895 when the railroad was extended to the site. A post office called Conception Junction has been in operation since 1907. Conception Junction was named for a railroad junction between the Wabash and the Chicago Great Western Railroads. Both lines are now gone.
