Plasmer
''Plasmer'' was a short-lived 1993 comic book series from Marvel UK, created by Glenn Dakin and Pascual Ferry. Biography Plasmer was about a shapeshifting, artificial lifeform created by Doctor Oonagh Mullarkey. Dr. Mullarkey used both science and magic to separate the good and evil parts of her personality as a means of increasing her abilities. The good parts of her were placed in a formless protoplasm that developed a life of its own, and became the superhero Plasmer. Controversy Plasmer was the subject of a Marvel lawsuit against Defiant Comics' ''Plasm'' due to alleged similarities in name. Defiant changed the name to ''Warriors of Plasm'' but went bankrupt soon after due to the legal costs. |
Defiant Comics
Defiant Comics was a comic book publishing imprint of Enlightened Entertainment Partners, LP. Defiant was established in 1993 by former Marvel Comics and Valiant Comics editor-in-chief Jim Shooter. Publication history Defiant was founded in the wake of Jim Shooter's departure from Valiant. After attempting unsuccessfully to retain his partial ownership of Voyager Communications (Valiant's parent company) Shooter founded a new company that included some Valiant artists and writers on its staff. He formed a business venture with The River Group to help finance Defiant. In early 1993, Defiant announced that its first title, ''Plasm'', would be released as a series of trading cards that could be put together in an album to form "issue #0". Upon hearing the news, Marvel Comics threatened a lawsuit against Defiant, claiming the new title violated a Marvel UK trademark for their book/character Plasmer. Pascual Ferry
Pasqual Ferry (sometimes credited as Paschalis, Pascual or Pascal Ferry) is a Spanish comic book artist and penciller. Biography Ferry is known in the United States' comic industry for his work on ''Heroes for Hire'' (1997), ''Action Comics'' (2000) and ''Adam Strange'' (2004). Other titles he has worked on include '' Plasmer'' (1993), '' 2099: World of Tomorrow'' (1996) and ''Warlock'' (1999). In 2005, he and writer Grant Morrison began work on the ''Seven Soldiers of Victory'' limited series ''Mister Miracle'', which introduced a new version of the character. However, for reasons that have not been made known, he was only able to do the first issue. In mid-2006, Ferry became the new artist on Marvel's '' Ultimate Fantastic Four'' with writer Mike Carey. In 2010 Ferry became the regular artist on Marvel's ''Thor'' teamed with writer Matt Fraction. ''Warriors of Plasm'' was the flagship title of Jim Shooter's Defiant Comics comic book company. Besides the original first issue (#1) of the comic (1993), there was also a zero issue (#0) of ''Warriors of Plasm'' which was released as an insert in ''Previews'' magazine, and as a trading card set that could be put together in a binder to be read as a comic. Glenn Dakin
Glenn Dakin (born 1960) is a British cartoonist and author of children's books. He is the author of the ''Candle Man'' book series, and he contributed to a number of British comics magazines including ''Escape'' and ''Deadline'', and was part of the British small press comics scene in the 1980s. His main creations are ''Temptation'' and the semi-autobiographical strip ''Abe''. Career While at college in Manchester Dakin was drawing ''Abe'' for his college magazine when he met Paul Gravett, who introduced him to the concept of self-publishing comics in zine form and distributing them via the mail and Gravett's Fast Fiction service. While initially dismissive, he soon became interested, corresponding with Eddie Campbell and Phil Elliott amongst others. Marvel UK
Marvel UK was an imprint of Marvel Comics formed in 1972 to reprint US-produced stories for the British weekly comic market. Marvel UK later produced original material by British creators such as Alan Moore, John Wagner, Dave Gibbons, Steve Dillon, and Grant Morrison. There were a number of editors in charge of overseeing the UK editions. Although based in the United States, Tony Isabella oversaw the establishment of Marvel UK. He was succeeded by UK-based editors Peter L. Skingley (a.k.a. Peter Allan) and then Matt Softly – both of whom were women who adopted male pen names for the job (in reality, they were Petra Skingley and Maureen Softly). They were then replaced by Neil Tennant, who later found fame with the pop group the Pet Shop Boys. Genetix is a team of superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, under the Marvel UK imprint. The team was created by Andy Lanning, Graham Marks, and Phil Gascoine. Publication history The team first appeared in ''Codename: Genetix'' #1 (January 1993), which was followed by another limited series called ''Genetix'' (October 1993). ''Comic Book Resources'', also known by the initialism CBR, is a website dedicated to the coverage of comic book–related news and discussion. History Comic Book Resources was founded by Jonah Weiland in 1995 as a development of the Kingdom Come Message Board, a message forum that Weiland created to discuss DC Comics' then-new mini-series of the same name. Big Comic Book DataBase
The Big Cartoon DataBase (or BCDB for short) is an online database of information about animated cartoons, animated feature films, animated television shows, and cartoon shorts. The BCDB project began in 1997 as a list of Disney animated features on creator Dave Koch's local computer. In response to increasing interest in the material, the database went online in 1998 as a searchable resource dedicated to compiling information about cartoons, including production details such as voice actors, producers, and directors, as well as plot summaries and user reviews of cartoons. In 2003, BCDB became a 501(c) non-profit corporation. On June 24, 2009, it was announced by creator Dave Koch on his BCDB forums that the site had 100,000 titles. Due to system issues that have been unable to be resolved, all cartoon information on the site is non-existent after 2019. Users are no longer able to contribute to the site due to the issue.
