Planes, Trains And Automobiles
''Planes, Trains and Automobiles'' is a 1987 American comedy film written, produced and directed by John Hughes and starring Steve Martin and John Candy with supporting roles by Laila Robins and Michael McKean. It tells the story of a high-strung marketing executive and a goodhearted but annoying shower curtain ring salesman who become travel companions when their flight is diverted and share a three-day odyssey of misadventures trying to get to Chicago in time for the executive's Thanksgiving Day dinner with his family. The film received critical acclaim, with many praising it for Hughes branching out from teen comedies, and for Candy's and Martin's performances. It has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition for many. John Hughes (filmmaker)
John Wilden Hughes Jr. (February 18, 1950 – August 6, 2009) was an American filmmaker. Hughes began his career in 1970 as an author of humorous essays and stories for the '' National Lampoon'' magazine. Charles Tyner
Charles Tyner (June 8, 1923 – November 8, 2017) was an American film, television and stage character actor best known, principally, for his performances in the films ''Harold and Maude'' (1971), '' Emperor of the North Pole'' (1973), '' The Longest Yard'' (1974), ''Planes, Trains and Automobiles'' (1987) and ''Pulse'' (1988). Early years Tyner was a native of Danville, Virginia and served in the United States Army as a combat infantryman in Germany and France during World War II. Career In 1957, Tyner made his debut on Broadway in ''Orpheus Descending''. Two years later, he appeared with Paul Newman in ''Sweet Bird of Youth'' on Broadway. During 1959, Tyner made his film debut with an uncredited part in ''That Kind of Woman''. Diana Douglas
Diana Love Webster (née Dill; formerly Douglas and Darrid; January 22, 1923 – July 3, 2015) was an American actress who was known for her marriage to actor Kirk Douglas from 1943 until their divorce in 1951. She was the mother of Michael and Joel Douglas. In 1942, Douglas began her career as an actress and appeared in more than 50 films. Some of her well-known roles were as Susan Rogers in ''The Indian Fighter'' (co-starring Kirk Douglas) and as Peg in ''Planes, Trains and Automobiles''. She was also known for her recurring role as Martha Evans in ''Days of Our Lives'' (1977–1979, 1982).
