Plainfield (CDP), New Hampshire
Plainfield is a census-designated place (CDP) and the namesake village in the town of Plainfield, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, United States. The population of the CDP was 178 at the 2020 census, out of 2,459 in the entire town. Geography The CDP is in the western part of the town of Plainfield, along New Hampshire Route 12A, which leads north to Interstate 89 in West Lebanon and south to the Cornish–Windsor Covered Bridge over the Connecticut River. The Plainfield CDP is bordered to the west by Clay Brook and to the east by Blow-me-down Brook, a southwest-flowing tributary of the Connecticut. The southern end of the CDP is at the confluence of the two brooks, and the northern end is at Stage Road and NH 12A. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , all of it recorded as land. A census-designated place (CDP) is a concentration of population defined by the United States Census Bureau for statistical purposes only. CDPs have been used in each decennial census since 1980 as the counterparts of incorporated places, such as self-governing cities, towns, and villages, for the purposes of gathering and correlating statistical data. CDPs are populated areas that generally include one officially designated but currently unincorporated community, for which the CDP is named, plus surrounding inhabited countryside of varying dimensions and, occasionally, other, smaller unincorporated communities as well. CDPs include small rural communities, edge cities, colonias located along the Mexico–United States border, and unincorporated resort and retirement communities and their environs.
