Plainfield is an unincorporated community in Dodge County, Georgia, United States. The community is located near Georgia State Route 117 State Route 117 (SR 117) is a state highway that runs southeast-to-northwest in an upside down question mark around McRae. History The Town of Plainfield is a rural farming community in northeast Dodge County. A railroad station was established in Plainfield and began operation in 1909. The local train, Wrightsville and Tennille Railroad, known as the "Wiggle and Twist" made a daily round-trip from Dublin through Rentz, Cadwell, and Plainfield on to Eastman. A post office opened in 1909, serving until October 5, 2002. A jail was built in 1910 but was destroyed by fire soon after. Dodge County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of 2010, the population was 21,796. The county seat is Eastman. Dodge County lies in the Historic South and Black Belt region of Georgia, an area that was devoted to cotton production in the antebellum years. It has significant historic buildings and plantations, has a substantial African-American population, and shows cultural aspects of the South. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Eastman, Georgia
Eastman is a city in Dodge County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,962 at the 2010 census. Named after one of the founders who contributed a site and paid for the county courthouse, the city was established in 1871, and is the county seat of Dodge County. In the 19th century, this was a center of the timber and sawmill industry. During the Great Depression in 1937, the first Stuckey's Pecan Shoppe, once well-known along roadways throughout the United States, was founded in Eastman. Chartered in 1883, the Wrightsville and Tennille Railroad was founded to build a line from a connection with the Central of Georgia Railroad at Tennille, GA to Wrightsville, GA.
