Place De La Musique
The Sanfilippo Place de la Musique is a private museum in Barrington Hills, Illinois, United States, known for its collection of antique music machines, including phonographs, player pianos, fairground and band organs, calliopes, and a large theater pipe organ. It is located on the estate of Jasper and Marian Sanfilippo. It is sometimes referred to as the Sanfilippo Collection. Displays Theater organ The Wurlitzer company built the theater organ in 1927 as their Opus 1571. It is one of the largest theater pipe organs in the world, currently having about 80 ranks and approximately 5000 pipes. It was originally built for the Riviera Theatre in Omaha, Nebraska. It has been restored and expanded under David Junchen, after the museum installed it in a purpose-built music room. Barrington Hills is a village located about northwest of Chicago in the U.S. state of Illinois. Per the 2020 census, the population was 4,114. It straddles approximately over four counties, Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry. The Village of Barrington Hills was incorporated in 1957. Jasper B. Sanfilippo, Sr. (born Gaspare Baratta Sanfilippo March 26, 1931 – January 28, 2020) was an Illinois-based businessman, industrialist and philanthropist. Early life and education Jasper Sanfilippo was born in Chicago, Illinois in March 1931 to John Battista and Rosalie Baratta, the former of Sicilian ancestry. He attended Lake View High School and graduated in 1953 with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois. Wurlitzer
The Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, usually referred to as simply Wurlitzer, is an American company started in Cincinnati in 1853 by German immigrant (Franz) Rudolph Wurlitzer. The company initially imported stringed, woodwind and brass instruments from Germany for resale in the United States. Wurlitzer enjoyed initial success, largely due to defense contracts to provide musical instruments to the U.S. military. In 1880, the company began manufacturing pianos and eventually relocated to North Tonawanda, New York. It quickly expanded to make band organs, orchestrions, player pianos and pipe or theatre organs popular in theatres during the days of silent movies. Theater Organ
A theatre organ (also known as a theater organ, or, especially in the United Kingdom, a cinema organ) is a type of pipe organ developed to accompany silent films, from the 1900s to the 1920s. Theatre organs have horseshoe-shaped arrangements of stop tabs (tongue-shaped switches) above and around the instrument's keyboards on their consoles. Theatre organ consoles were typically decorated with brightly colored stop tabs, with built-in console lighting. The Rose Blumkin Performing Arts Center or The Rose, also known as the Astro Theater, originally opened as The Riviera. It is located in downtown Omaha, Nebraska.
