8th Arrondissement Of Paris
The 8th arrondissement of Paris (''VIIIe arrondissement'') is one of the 20 arrondissements of the capital city of France. In spoken French, the arrondissement is colloquially referred to as ''le huitième'' ("the eighth"). The arrondissement, called Élysée, is situated on the right bank of the River Seine and centred on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. The 8th arrondissement is, together with the 1st, 9th, 16th and 17th arrondissements, one of Paris's main business districts. According to the 1999 census, it was the place of employment of more people than any other single arrondissement of the capital. ''Dictionnaire historique des rues de Paris'' (''Historical Dictionary of the Streets of Paris'') is a book by Jacques Hillairet, a historian specializing in the history of Paris. It includes 5344 streets in two volumes and 2343 illustrations. It was first published in 1960 by éditions de Minuit and was regularly re-published and updated from 1963 onwards. His sources included '' Dictionnaire administratif et historique des rues de Paris et de ses monuments'' by Louis and Félix Lazare (first edition, 1844) and ''Histoire de Paris rue par rue, maison par maison'' by Charles Lefeuve (issued from 1863). Auguste André Coussillan (31 July 1886 – 15 April 1984) was a French historian specialising in the history of Paris. Dublin (; , or ) is the capital and largest city of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Gustave Caillebotte
Gustave Caillebotte (; 19 August 1848 – 21 February 1894) was a French painter who was a member and patron of the Impressionists, although he painted in a more realistic manner than many others in the group. Caillebotte was known for his early interest in photography as an art form. Early life Gustave Caillebotte was born on 19 August 1848 to an upper-class Parisian family living in the rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis. His father, Martial Caillebotte (1799–1874), was the inheritor of the family's military textile business and was also a judge at the Tribunal de commerce de la Seine. Caillebotte's father was twice widowed before marrying Caillebotte's mother, Céleste Daufresne (1819–1878), who had two more sons after Gustave: René (1851–1876) and Martial (1853–1910). ''Paris Street; Rainy Day'' (french: Rue de Paris, temps de pluie) is a large 1877 oil painting by the French artist Gustave Caillebotte (1848–1894), and is his best known work.Hagen, 624 It shows a number of individuals walking through the Place de Dublin, then known as the Carrefour de Moscou, at an intersection to the east of the Gare Saint-Lazare in north Paris. Although Caillebotte was a friend and patron of many of the impressionist painters, and this work is part of that school, it differs in its realism and reliance on line rather than broad brush strokes. Caillebotte's interest in photography is evident. The figures in the foreground appear "out of focus", those in the mid-distance (the carriage and the pedestrians in the intersection) have sharp edges, while the features in the background become progressively indistinct.
