Pizzo, Calabria
Pizzo ( scn, label= Calabrian, U Pizzu), also called Pizzo Calabro, is a seaport and in the province of Vibo Valentia (Calabria, southern Italy), situated on a steep cliff overlooking the Gulf of Saint Euphemia. Fishing is one of the main activities, including that of tuna and coral. History As with many other places in Calabria, Pizzo claims ancient origins. The town may have been founded by colonists from an unknown site in ancient Magna Grecia, but there is currently no documentary or archeological evidence to support this. Pizzo (mafia)
The pizzo () is protection money paid to the Mafia often in the form of a forced transfer of money resulting from extortion. The term is derived from the Sicilian ''pizzu'' ('beak'). To ''let someone whet their beak'' (Sicilian language ''fari vagnari u pizzu'') is to pay protection money. The practice is widespread in Southern Italy, not only by the Sicilian Cosa Nostra, but also by the 'Ndrangheta in Calabria and the Camorra in Campania. Another etymological explanation of the term is "beakerful," referring to the right of an overseer to scoop from the grain being threshed by peasants.Paoli, ''Mafia Brotherhoods'', p. 241 Paying the pizzo may also involve adding someone (often a member of a criminal organisation) to the payroll, provisioning of services by Mafia-controlled businesses or subcontracting to Mafia-controlled companies.Paoli, ''Mafia Brotherhoods'', p. 164 Businesses that refuse to pay the pizzo may be burned down. In return for paying the pizzo, businesses rec ...

Pizzo (pipe)
A pizzo – also known as an pilo, oil burner, bubble, tweak pipe, meth pipe, gack pipe, crank pipe or ice pipe – is a glass pipe which consists of a tube connected to a spherical bulb with a small opening on top designed for freebasing methamphetamine or crack cocaine as well as other drugs. There are some legitimate uses for these pipes including applying the hole "on the top of an eucalyptus bottle" for inhaling aromas or moisture. These pipes are often sold at head shops and convenience stores, though local and national restrictions often apply and sellers may be subject to fines and/or jail time. In Modesto, California, local investigators seized thousands of oil burners from head shops. Eight people were subjected to citations which could bring up to $1,000 in fines and possibly six months of jail time. Pizzos are often advertised as "oil burners" or "mystic vases" designed for burning incense oils. Wish.com has listed the glass item as a "Colored Glass Oil Burner Pipe" an ...
