Pittsburgh Steelers Radio Network
The Pittsburgh Steelers Radio Network is an American radio network composed of 39 radio stations which carry English-language coverage of the Pittsburgh Steelers, a professional football team in the National Football League (NFL). Since 2013, co-owned Pittsburgh market stations WDVE () and WBGG () have served as the network's two flagships. The network also includes 37 affiliates in the U.S. states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia: eighteen AM stations, fifteen of which supplement their signals with a low-power FM translator; and nineteen full-power FM stations. Radio Network
There are two types of radio network currently in use around the world: the one-to-many (simplex communication) broadcast network commonly used for public information and mass-media entertainment, and the two-way radio ( duplex communication) type used more commonly for public safety and public services such as police, fire, taxicabs, and delivery services. Cell phones are able to send and receive simultaneously by using two different frequencies at the same time. Many of the same components and much of the same basic technology applies to all three. AM Broadcasting
AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. The earliest experimental AM transmissions began in the early 1900s. However, widespread AM broadcasting was not established until the 1920s, following the development of vacuum tube receivers and transmitters. AM radio remained the dominant method of broadcasting for the next 30 years, a period called the "Golden Age of Radio", until television broadcasting became widespread in the 1950s and received most of the programming previously carried by radio. WISR (680 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Butler, Pennsylvania. The station was the first to go on the air in Butler County, doing so on September 26, 1941. The station was the last to be granted a broadcast license before the FCC halted the licensing of any additional stations until after World War II. It has always broadcast on AM 680 with a maximum power output of 250 Watts, non-directional. WISR had operated as a daytime-only station until it was granted limited nighttime power in the late 1980s. The station has a construction permit for an FM translator (W298CW) that would allow it to operate at 107.5 mHz. The permit was granted January 25, 2018. The FM translator officially signed on air September 28, 2021, making WISR available on both the AM and FM bands, and was licensed effective October 15, 2021. Bedford, Pennsylvania
Bedford is a borough and spa town in and the county seat of Bedford County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is located west of Harrisburg, the state capital, and east of Pittsburgh. The 2022 season is the ongoing Pittsburgh Steelers' 90th in the National Football League (NFL) and their 16th under head coach Mike Tomlin. This is the first season since 2003 without long-time quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the roster, as he announced his retirement on January 27, 2022. It is also the first season since 1999 without long-time general manager Kevin Colbert, as he announced on January 28, 2022 that after 22 years with the organization, he would step down following the 2022 NFL Draft.
