Almira Hollander Pitman
Almira Hollander Pitman (1854 – December 17, 1939) was an American suffragist and women's rights activist. Pitman was largely active in New England and Massachusetts suffrage organizations. She was also instrumental in working for women's suffrage in Hawaii. Pitman was also known for her writing. Biography Almira "Mira" Hollander was born in Massachusetts in 1854 and grew up in Brookline. She married Benjamin Franklin Keolaokalani Pitman, who was the son of Benjamin Pitman, in 1875. Born in the Kingdom of Hawaii, Benjamin F. K. Pitman was of Native Hawaiian noble descent and the son of Kinoʻoleoliliha, a high chiefess of Hilo. Almira Pitman became involved with women's suffrage in 1884 when she joined the New England Woman Suffrage Association (NEWSA). Robert Carter Pitman (March 16, 1825 – March 5, 1891) was a Superior Court judge in Massachusetts, a temperance advocate, and a legislator in the Massachusetts General Court. Pitman was born in Newport, Rhode Island on March 16, 1825, the son of Benjamin and Mary Ann (Carter) Pitman. He was educated at the public schools of Bedford, at the Friends Academy, and at Wesleyan University,Davis, William Thomas, ''Bench and Bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in New England'', The Boston History Company, 1895. where he became a member of the Mystical Seven, graduating in 1845. Mary Pitman Ailau
Mary Ann Kinoʻole Kaʻaumokulani Pitman (1838/March 1841 – February 11, 1905), later Mary Pitman Ailau, was a high chiefess of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi of part Native Hawaiian and American descent. She was raised and educated in Hilo and Honolulu and served as a maid of honor and lady-in-waiting of Queen Emma, the wife of Kamehameha IV. In 1861, she left for the United States with her family, and she lived for the next twenty years in New England. She visited her distant cousin King Kalākaua during his state visit to the United States in 1875. She returned in 1881 to Hawaiʻi where she married musician John Keakaokalani Ailau, better known as Jack Ailau. Sir Isaac James Pitman (known as James), KBE (14 August 1901 – 1 September 1985) was a distinguished publisher, senior civil servant, prominent educationalist, and leading politician, whose lifetime pursuit was the study of etymology, orthography, and pedagogy.
