Pithamagan
''Pithamagan'' () is a 2003 Indian Tamil-language crime drama film written and directed by Bala. The film stars Vikram, Suriya, Laila and Sangeetha. Based on Jayakanthan's short story ''Nandhavanathil Oru Aandi'', it revolves around a man who grew away from civilisation with minimal human contact, and as a result is animalistic. ''Pithamagan'' was released on 24 October 2003. The film became very successful and Vikram won the National Film Award for Best Actor. Owing to its success, the film was dubbed into Telugu and released as ''Siva Putrudu'' () on 2 April 2004. The film was also remade in Kannada as '' Anatharu'' (2007). Plot An anonymous woman dies while giving birth in a graveyard. Her child, Chithan, is found and raised by the caretaker of the graveyard. Evergreen Movie International is an Indian film production and distribution company headed by V. A. Durai. The studio collaborated with actor Sathyaraj and director Sakthi Chidambaram on multiple ventures in the early 2000s, before running into financial trouble through the making of Bala's ''Pithamagan'' (2003). D. Jayakanthan (24 April 1934 – 8 April 2015), popularly known as JK, was an Indian writer, journalist, orator, filmmaker, critic and activist. Born in Cuddalore, he dropped out of school at the age of 9 and went to Madras, where he joined the Communist Party of India. Laila (born 24 October 1980) is an Indian actress. She has acted predominantly in Tamil films, as well as few Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi language films. Mu Ramaswamy is an Indian theatre artist, professor of drama, and actor best known for his dramas ''Durgira Avalam'', a Tamil adaptation of Sophocles' ''Antigone'', and ''Kalagakkarar Thozhar Periyar'', a biography of the life of Periyar.
