Pirkanmaa (constituency)
Pirkanmaa (formerly Häme North) is a Finnish constituency represented in the Parliament of Finland. It covers the administrative region of Pirkanmaa, with a population of 453,978 (). Pirkanmaa currently elects 18 members of the Parliament. The constituency is largely urban, centred on the traditionally working-class city of Tampere. The largest party in the parliamentary elections has been the Social Democratic Party of Finland, although it has as many seats as the conservative National Coalition. Constituencies Of Finland
There are thirteen constituencies in Finland, nowadays called electoral districts by the Finnish Parliament. (The English word "constituency" is confusing due to its various meanings.) The citizens of each electoral district elect from 6 to 35 MPs (members of parliament), depending on the population of the district, but 05 Åland only elects one. The boundaries of the electoral districts are based on the province division in use from 1634 to 1997 and has remained basically the same since the first parliamentary election in 1907. In 1939, the constituency of Northern Oulu was divided between the constituencies of Lapland and Oulu. The constituency of Southern Oulu was renamed to Oulu in the process. After the Continuation War, the electoral districts of Eastern and Western Viipuri, which lost much of their territories to the Soviet Union, were united to the new constituency of Kymi. Lea Mäkipää
Lea Kaarina Mäkipää (born 6 May 1947) is a Finnish former politician. Born in Kihniö, Mäkipää first served on the city's municipal council in 1981. She was first elected to the Finnish Parliament in 1983 as a member of the Finnish Rural Party, and was re-elected in 1987 and 1991. While in Parliament, she served on the Committee on Finance and the Committee on Labor and Equal Opportunities. She was also deputy chairperson of the Rural Party from 1985 to 1990 and served as the chairperson of its parliamentary members from 1994 to 1995. In the 1995 elections, Mäkipää lost her seat in Parliament, and shortly afterward the Rural Party rebranded itself as the Finns Party, which she joined. Mikko Tapio Alatalo (born 1 May 1951) is a Finnish musician and politician. Career Alatalo was born in Kuivaniemi, now a part of Ii, Finland. He is mostly known for his long and successful musical career. His style is primarily seen as children's music and folk music but he has contributed to other genres as well, including a long partnership with rock musician Juice Leskinen. A significant part of his songs were co-written with Harri Rinne. His most famous songs include "Maalaispoika oon" ("I'm a country boy"), "Hasardi", "Rokkilaulaja" ("Rock singer"). In the 1980s his style changed from rock more towards schlager. He also made some children's songs (including "Känkkäränkkä", "Taitaa tulla kesä") that became famous.
