Pioneer Days (Chico, California)
Pioneer Days is the historical name of an annual community event in Chico, California celebrated the week prior to Pioneer Day, the first Saturday in May. Chico has a history of "May Day Parades" dating back to the late 19th century. In 1915, the first parade that would later come to be called the Pioneer Day Parade was held on the downtown streets of Chico as a celebration of Chico Normal School's Senior Day. This tradition would continue as a celebration of local heritage under various names including Rancho Chico Days, and Celebration of People. In 1987 Playboy Magazine named Chico State the "Number One Party School" in the nation. University President Robin Wilson met with city officials including City Manager Fred Davis, and Police Chief, John Bullerjahn with the goal of transforming the reputation by ending the parties directly with police intervention. ''Pioneer Days'' is a Mickey Mouse short animated film first released on November 20, 1930, as part of the ''Mickey Mouse (film series), Mickey Mouse'' film series. It was the twenty-fourth Mickey Mouse short to be produced, the ninth of that year. The short features Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse; Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow can also be seen in background scenes. Plot Mickey and Minnie lead a caravan of covered wagons heading west through the desert, playing the banjo and singing "Oh! Susanna". Kalida is a village in Putnam County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,542 at the 2010 census. History Founded in 1834, Kalida was the first county seat of Putnam County. Kalida is a name derived from Greek meaning "beautiful". A post office has been in operation in Kalida since 1834. Kalida was incorporated as a village in 1839.
