Pinocchio (1967 Film)
''Pinocchio'' (german: Turlis Abenteuer) is an East German film. It was released on November 3, 1967. Released in the US in February 1969. Summary A master carpenter creates a wooden puppet named Pinocchio. Through the course of the story, the puppet begins to act lifelike, develops a mind of his own, and wishes to be a real boy. He even goes to school with real children, but is kidnapped and sold into slavery along with his friend Pippifax, so Pinocchio's creator/father, named Papa Gepetto, sets out looking for him. Pinocchio rescues his friends and himself from the clutches of the evil Stromboli, and rescues his father from the belly of a giant fish. In the end, Pinocchio gets his wish and turns into a real, flesh-and-blood boy. This is a list, in year order, of the most notable films produced in the Soviet Occupation Zone of Germany and the socialist German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) from 1945 until German Reunification in October 1990. The state owned East German film company DEFA produced about 800 feature films between 1946 and 1992. Besides DEFA, the state broadcaster DFF and the Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst (now the Filmuniversität Babelsberg) were the only other organizations in the GDR that produced feature films for cinematic release, although far fewer than DEFA. DEFA also produced about 750 animated movies and more than 2500 documentaries and short films. Vera Franziska Oelschlegel (born 5 July 1938) is a German actress, singer, artistic director, drama director and professor of drama at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts. She was a celebrity in East Germany before 1989. After that, from 1990 till 2013, she headed up the touring theatre company. Biography Oelschlegel was born in Leipzig. Her mother, Ruth Oelschlegel (née Lauterbach, 1914–2014), was trained as a journalist. Her father, businessman Gottfried Oelschlegel (1910–1945), was killed in World War II. She attended the prestigious St. Thomas School in Leipzig, passing her school final exams (Abitur) in 1956. After that she studied between 1956 and 1959 at the acting faculty of the , from which she emerged with a degree, and where she also served as the secretary for the faculty's Free German Youth section.
