Pinhay
Pinhay is a hamlet in the civil parish of Combpyne Rousdon in the East Devon district of Devon, England. The hamlet lies approximately south-west from Lyme Regis, its nearest town. Pinhay is home to Pinhay Bay, a large face of cliffs which lies along the Jurassic Coast. Pinhay Bay
Pinhay Bay is a bay in Devon, on the south coast of England, about southwest of Lyme Regis and about east of Seaton. The bay receives its name from the hamlet of Pinhay which is situated slightly inland. Approximately further west, toward Axmouth and Seaton, lies Charton Bay, with a wider expanse of shingle beach than Pinhay Bay and the Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliff stretching in a large terraces inland. This is accessible from Charton Goyle at the top of the cliff via a slightly arduous and worn path with many flights of wooden steps. This route was once popular but is long since abandoned after the demise of the village earlier in the 20th century. The surrounding terrain is rugged. Lyme Regis
Lyme Regis is a town in west Dorset, England, west of Dorchester and east of Exeter. Sometimes dubbed the "Pearl of Dorset", it lies by the English Channel at the Dorset–Devon border. It has noted fossils in cliffs and beaches on the Heritage or Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site. The harbour wall, known as The Cobb, appears in Jane Austen's novel ''Persuasion'', the John Fowles novel ''The French Lieutenant's Woman'' and the 1981 film of that name, partly shot in the town. East Devon is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Simon Jupp of the Conservative Party. Civil Parish
In England, a civil parish is a type of administrative parish used for local government. It is a territorial designation which is the lowest tier of local government below districts and counties, or their combined form, the unitary authority. Civil parishes can trace their origin to the ancient system of ecclesiastical parishes, which historically played a role in both secular and religious administration. Civil and religious parishes were formally differentiated in the 19th century and are now entirely separate. Civil parishes in their modern form came into being through the Local Government Act 1894, which established elected parish councils to take on the secular functions of the parish vestry. Jurassic Coast
The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site on the English Channel coast of southern England. It stretches from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset, a distance of about , and was inscribed on the World Heritage List in mid-December 2001. The site spans 185 million years of geological history, coastal erosion having exposed an almost continuous sequence of rock formation covering the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. At different times, this area has been desert, shallow tropical sea and marsh, and the fossilised remains of the various creatures that lived here have been preserved in the rocks. Natural features seen on this stretch of coast include arches, pinnacles and stack rocks.
