''Pingu'' is a stop-motion children's television series co-created by Otmar Gutmann and Erika Brueggemann. It was originally produced from 1990 to 2000 by Swiss company The Pygos Group (originally called Trickfilmstudio) for SF DRS in Switzerland. It was later revived from 2003 to 2006 for CBeebies by British companies HIT Entertainment and Hot Animation. The series focuses on a family of anthropomorphic emperor penguins who live in the South Pole; the main character is the family's son and title character, Pingu. The series originally ran for four series from 7 March 1990 to 9 April 2000 on SF DRS. It was then renewed for two more series from 1 August 2003 to 3 March 2006 on CBeebies. Pingu In The City
is a computer-animated children's television series co-produced by Mattel Creations, NHK, NHK Enterprises, and Polygon Pictures. It is a reboot based on the stop-motion television series ''Pingu'' by HIT Entertainment (The Pygos Group). The series first aired on NHK Educational TV in Japan from October 7, 2017, to March 30, 2019. Premise The series was adapted from the famous stop-motion animated series ''Pingu'', which was created in 1986 by Otmar Gutmann and Erika Brueggemann for the SRF in Switzerland. In the new series, Pingu and his family move from their home in the Antarctic to a large city, where the inhabitants are all very different. Carlo Bonomi
Carlo Bonomi (12 March 1937 – 6 August 2022) was an Italian voice actor and clown who was best known for his voiceover work as the voice of Mr. Linea in the animated series '' La Linea'' as well as Pingu and various other characters in series 1-4 of the stop-motion children's television series of the same name. Career Bonomi voiced many characters for the Italian advertising show ''Carosello''. The language of noises he had developed and used for the earlier Osvaldo Cavandoli's '' La Linea'' from 1971 to 1986 was reinterpreted for the acclaimed TV series ''Pingu'' on SF DRS during its first four seasons produced between 1990 and 2000, where Bonomi voiced all the characters without a script. Otmar Gutmann
Otmar Gutmann (24 April 1937 – 13 October 1993) was a German filmmaker who specialised in animation. He is known for co-creating the stop-motion television series ''Pingu'' alongside Erika Brueggemann. He started as an amateur in the 1960s. As a professional he only made one personal work, ''Aventures'' (1978). It was based on a piece of music by Gyorgy Ligeti. He brought the sculptural universe of Lubomir Stepan to life as an exploration of human condition. In 1980, he was one of the leading animators of the plasticine characters Frédéric and Frédéri from ''Lucy the Menace of Street''. Later, in 1986, he designed the character of Pingu. A TV series starring the character, which Gutmann co-created with Erika Brueggemann, became successful internationally. David Sant
David Sant (born 1968) is a Spanish mime artist, acrobat, puppeteer, stuntman, director, actor and writer. Early life and career Sant was born in Spain in 1968. He discovered the theatre at the age of seventeen thanks to his literature teacher. He moved to the UK in the early nineties where he began performing as a mime artist, acrobat, puppeteer, stuntman and directed for many physical theatre companies winning several awards at different international festivals. In 2006, he was approached by the BBC to bring his comedy skills to television and has been directing sitcoms and comedy dramas ever since. CBeebies is a British free-to-air public broadcast children's television channel owned and operated by the BBC. It is also the brand used for all BBC content for children aged 6 years and under. Grammelot (or gromalot or galimatias) is an imitation of language used in satirical theatre, an ''ad hoc'' gibberish that uses prosody along with macaronic and onomatopoeic elements to convey emotional and other meaning, and used in association with mime and mimicry. The satirical use of such a format may date back to the 16th century commedia dell'arte; the group of cognate terms appears to belong to the 20th century. History In an essay entitled “L’art du grommelot”, French scholar Claude Duneton suggests the word (not the technique) – in its French form, ''grommelot'' – has its origins in the ''commedia dell'arte''-derived Italian theatre of the early part of the sixteenth century. Clay animation or claymation, sometimes plasticine animation, is one of many forms of stop-motion animation. Each animated piece, either character or background, is "deformable"—made of a malleable substance, usually plasticine clay. Traditional animation, from cel animation to stop motion, is produced by recording each frame, or still picture, on film or digital media and then playing the recorded frames back in rapid succession before the viewer. These and other moving images, from zoetrope to films and video games, create the illusion of motion by playing back at over ten to twelve frames per second. Amin Bhatia
Amin Bhatia (born 10 July 1961, London, England) is a Canadian-British recording artist, film, and television music score composer and producer. In 1981, his compositions won the Roland Corporation International Synthesizer competition for two consecutive years. The judges included Oscar Peterson, Robert Moog, Ralph Dyck, and Isao Tomita.
