Pinbarren is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Noosa, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Pinbarren had a population of 447 people. Geography Pinbarren is on the Sunshine Coast, from the centre of Noosa Heads. It is located at the foot of Mount Pinbarren. Its southern boundary is marked by Six Mile Creek. The town is in the south-west of the locality. Mount Pinbarren is located in Mount Pinbarren National Park, which was established in 1929. History The name ''Pinbarren'' appears to be a corruption of an Aboriginal name ''Pimperon'' for the local mountain. Pinbarren Creek Provisional School opened in 1905. On 1 January 1909, it became Pinbarren Creek State School. The school was closed in 1939. From 1939 to 1943 the Pomona School Forestry Club planted Hoop Pine, Kauri Pine, Flooded Gum and Silky Oak trees on the school site and it was named the Pomona Memorial Forestry Plot on 31 October 1944. The Sunshine Coast is a peri-urban region in South East Queensland, Australia. It is the district defined in 1967 as "the area contained in the Shires of Landsborough, Maroochy and Noosa, but excluding Bribie Island". Located north of the centre of Brisbane in South East Queensland, on the Coral Sea coastline, its urban area spans approximately of coastline and hinterland from Pelican Waters to Tewantin. Noosa District State High School
Noosa District State High School is a twin campus high school based in Cooroy and Pomona in the Shire of Noosa, Queensland, Australia. The school was established in 1963, and as of 2016, had 1335 students. It is the longest-established secondary school in Noosa area. The school has two campuses in Cooroy and Pomona. The Pomona Campus was originally the Cooroora Secondary College before the two schools merged. Years 7–8 are taught at the Pomona campus, while Years 9–12 are taught at the Cooroy campus. Pomona State School is a government primary school in Pomona, Shire of Noosa, Queensland, Australia. It was established on 31 August 1897. History Originally named Pinbarren Provisional School from its establishment until 1909, when it was upgraded from a provisional school to a state school, and renamed Pomona State School. The school cost £813 for a simple high-set timber building with one large room and a verandah. School district The local school district was a patchwork of small schools in what would become the Shire of Noosa. The 1910 establishment of the Noosa shire and Pomona being selected as a central hub saw Pomona State School become the main school of the district. Kin Kin is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Noosa, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Kin Kin had a population of 764 people. In the 2021 census the population had risen to 844. Geography Kin Kin lies between Pomona to the south, and Gympie to the north, in South East Queensland. The town is a hub for recreational activities related to nearby Lake Cootharaba and the Great Sandy National Park. Kin Kin is in the Noosa Biosphere, Queensland's first UNESCO Biosphere. Noosa District State High School – Pomona Campus
Noosa District State High School – Pomona Campus is a high school based in Pomona in the Shire of Noosa, Queensland, Australia. It is the junior campus of Noosa District State High School. History On 24 October 1925, the Pomona State School committee unanimously voted to develop the Noosa Shire's first Rural School. However, this did not eventuate until 1935 due to fundraising issues and the Great Depression. The school was established next to the state school and opened by Frank Arthur Cooper on 26 October 1935. In 1944, the Rural School was upgraded to a secondary department to take sub-junior students, which commenced at the start of the 1945 school year. It was the first public secondary department (high school) established in Queensland. In that same year, several regional state schools were closed, with both their students and buildings transferred to Pomona. Mount Pinbarren is a national park in Queensland, Australia, 129 km north of Brisbane. It is located in Pinbarren, a locality in the Shire of Noosa. Mount Pinbarren lies within the South East Queensland bioregion and the Mary River catchment area. The park protects the naturally vegetated slopes of Mount Pinbarren.
