Bartolomeo Gennari
Bartolomeo Gennari (10 July 1594 – 29 January 1661) was an Italian Renaissance painter. His painting style is consistent with the Bolognese School of painting. Biography Gennari was the son of the painter Benedetto Gennari and Giulia Bovi. __NOTOC__ Francesco Francia, whose real name was Francesco Raibolini (1447 – 5 January 1517) was an Italian painter, goldsmith, and medallist from Bologna, who was also director of the city mint.Levinson:492 He may have trained with Marco Zoppo and was first mentioned as a painter in 1486. His earliest known work is the ''Felicini Madonna'', which is signed and dated 1494. He worked in partnership with Lorenzo Costa, and was influenced by Ercole de' Roberti's and Costa's style. Antonio Pio (Cesena, 1809 – London, 1871) was an Italian painter, depicting history, literary themes, and genre pieces. Biography He studied in Rome at the Accademia di San Luca under Tommaso Minardi, worked in Cesena during the 1840s, after which he moved around for many years, between the cities of Florence, Paris and London, where he died in 1871. Giovanni Battista Piazzetta
Giovanni Battista Piazzetta (also called Giambattista Piazzetta or Giambattista Valentino Piazzetta) (February 13, 1682 or 1683 – April 28, 1754) was an Italian Rococo painter of religious subjects and genre scenes. Biography Piazzetta was born in Venice, the son of a sculptor Giacomo Piazzetta, from whom he had early training in wood carving. Starting in 1697 he studied with the painter Antonio Molinari. By Piazzetta's account, he studied under Giuseppe Maria Crespi while living in Bologna in 1703–05, although there is no record by Crespi of formal tutelage. Thanks to Crespi, Carlo Cignani's influence reached Piazzetta. Piazzetta did find inspiration in Crespi's art, in which the chiaroscuro of Caravaggio was transformed into an idiom of graceful charm in his pictures of common folk. Bartolomeo Passerotti
Bartolomeo Passarotti or Passerotti (1529–1592) was an Italian painter of the mannerist period, who worked mainly in his native Bologna. His family name is also spelled Passerotti or Passarotto. Life and work From approximately 1550 to 1555, he lived in Rome, where he worked under Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola and Taddeo Zuccari. Upon returning to Bologna, he established a large studio and, from 1564 tp 1565, was engaged in painting a large altarpiece for the Basilica of San Giacomo Maggiore. In his later work, he turned to Tuscan models, such as Giorgio Vasari and Prospero Fontana. His last known work was ''The Presentation of Mary in the Temple'', from 1583, now at the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna. He influenced many Bolognese who would later play a role in the rise of the Baroque. Cotignola ( rgn, Cudgnôla) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Ravenna in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about southeast of Bologna and about west of Ravenna. Girolamo Marchesi
Girolamo Marchesi (c. 1471 – 1550) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance period. Born in Cotignola, whence his nickname of ''Girolamo da Cotignola'', he trained early on with Francesco Francia in Bologna, then in Rome under Raphael. He then traveled to Naples where he was patronized by the Florence, Florentine merchant Tommaso Cambi. According to Giorgio Vasari, he married a woman of ill repute there. In Ferrara he left an ''Adoration of the Magi'', and in the church of Santa Maria in Vado, a painting of two saints (1518). He painted with Biagio Pappini in San Michele in Bosco in Bologna.
