''Pilea victoriae'' is a plant species discovered by a team of botanists from the Government Victoria College, Palakkad, Kerala. The species is named after its type location Government Victoria College, Palakkad in honor of its services to the education sector of the state. Government Victoria College, Palakkad
The Government Victoria College in Palakkad, is the oldest institution of higher learning in the Malabar region of Kerala. It holds a rich educational heritage in the history of malabar region. It is affiliated to the Calicut University and provides undergraduate and postgraduate education in science, arts and commerce subjects. History The institution was started in the year 1866 as a Rate School, so called because it depended for its finances upon an educational 'rate' which was at the time levied by Local Government. In 1871 the year in which Local Fund Act came into force and educational rates were abolished, the school was taken over by the Local Fund Board. Pilea Microphylla
''Pilea microphylla'' also known as angeloweed, artillery plant, joypowder plant or (in Latin America) ''brilhantina'' is an annual plant native to Florida, Mexico, the West Indies, and tropical Central and Southern America. In the southern part of México, specifically Campeche and Mérida, the local name is Frescura. The plant belongs to the family Urticaceae. It has light green, almost succulent, stems and tiny 1/8" leaves which contribute to its other nickname, "Artillery Fern", though it is not related to ferns. It is grown as a ground cover in many areas. Propagation ''Pilea microphylla'' can be propagated by dividing the root ball, or taking herbaceous cuttings and rooting them with rooting hormone. The plant enjoys a thorough watering after the soil has been allowed to dry, and misting has been shown to be beneficial.
