Pilar Corrias
Pilar Corrias is a British contemporary art gallery founded by Pilar Corrias. Its first gallery space in Eastcastle Street, London, designed by Rem Koolhaas, opened in 2008. At the time, Corrias was the first woman to open a new art gallery in the West End of London for a decade. In July 2021, the gallery opened a second space in Savile Row, London, designed by Oslo architects Hesselbrand, with ''Chalk Mark,'' an exhibition by Iranian-American artist Tala Madani. History Founded by Pilar Corrias, a former director of Lisson Gallery and Haunch of Venison, the gallery opened on 16 October 2008 with the exhibition ''October'' by Philippe Parreno. Rem Koolhaas
Remment Lucas Koolhaas (; born 17 November 1944) is a Dutch architect, architectural theorist, urbanist and Professor in Practice of Architecture and Urban Design at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. He is often cited as a representative of Deconstructivism and is the author of ''Delirious New York: A Retroactive Manifesto for Manhattan''. He is seen by some as one of the significant architectural thinkers and urbanists of his generation, by others as a self-important iconoclast. In 2000, Rem Koolhaas won the Pritzker Prize. Keren Cytter
Keren Cytter ( he, קרן ציטר; born 22 August 1977) is an Israeli visual artist and writer. Biography Cytter, born 22 August 1977, spent her childhood in Israel and went on to study visual arts at the Avni Institute of Art and Design, Tel Aviv. After finding success in various galleries in her home country, she moved to Amsterdam on a scholarship from De Ateliers where she studied with Willem de Rooij and Marlene Dumas. Her scope of work includes film, video installations, performance, drawings and photography. She is also a writer of novels, theatre plays and poetry. Ulla von Brandenburg (born 1974 in Karlsruhe) is a German artist. She lives and works in Paris. She shows her work internationally and is one of the four finalists nominated for the Marcel Duchamp Prize in 2016. Background Ulla von Brandenburg was trained in Germany at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design in scenography. She also studied visual arts at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg. Tschabalala Self
Tschabalala Self (born 1990) is an American artist best known for her depictions of Black female figures using paint, fabric, and discarded pieces of her previous works. Though she uses mixed media, all of her works are on canvas and employ a "painting language." Inspired by works done by an African-American artist, Romare Bearden, Tschabalala Self creates collages of various items that she has collected over time and sews them together to depict black female bodies that "defy the narrow spaces in which they are forced to exist", which she derives from the history behind the African-American struggle and oppression in society. Self reclaims the black female body and portrays them to be free of stereotypes without having to fear being punished. Her goal is to "create alternative narratives around the black body". Sophie Von Hellermann
Sophie von Hellermann (born 1975, Munich) is an artist based in London who gained a fine art degree at the Royal College of Art. She went to art school in London, and stayed because "It's magical." She has been inspired by German Romanticism and German Expressionism. Von Hellermann has shown work internationally in exhibitions including "Dear Painter… Paint Me" at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, "On The Ground" at Vilma Gold in London, "Post Modern" at Greene Naftali in New York City, New York, and Margate, England. Shara Hughes (born 1981) is an American painter. Biography Hughes was born in 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and went on to study at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She lives and works in Brooklyn. Exhibitions and collections In 2017 an entire room Hughes' work was in the 2017 Whitney Biennial. Shahzia Sikander (born 1969, in Lahore, Pakistan) is a Pakistani-American visual artist. Sikander works across a variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, printmaking, animation, installation, performance and video. Sikander currently lives and works in New York City. Life and work Sabine Moritz was born as the daughter of a chemist in East Germany. From 1973 to 1981 she lived together with her family in a high-density housing area of Lobeda in Neulobeda. Robert Reed (artist)
Robert James Reed Jr. (July 9, 1938 – December 26, 2014) born in Charlottesville, Virginia, was an American artist and professor of painting and printmaking at Yale School of Art for 45 years. In 1987, Reed was appointed to Yale School of Art's tenured permanent faculty making him, at the time of his death, the School's first and only African-American to be so appointed in the School's then 145 year history. In his artwork, Reed is known for his geometric abstraction and personalized symbols to create a language of abstraction. He employs abstract symbols, color and deeply textured brushwork to create his iconic imagery. As Reed would explain, fragments, paths, cultural and universal signs and symbols, remembered childhood images and places are organized into his imagery.
