Pigs Is Pigs (1954 Film)
''Pigs Is Pigs'' is a 1954 animated film by Walt Disney Studios. Based on the story "Pigs Is Pigs" by Ellis Parker Butler, it relates the tale of a railway agent and his problems with a shipment of two guinea pigs that proceed to breed rapidly. The cartoon was animated in the flat, colorful UPA style. The melody of the traditional Irish jig "The Irish Washerwoman" is repeated throughout the short. Plot Flannery is a station manager who carries out all his activities based on his company's manual. However, everything changes when he receives a shipment of two guinea pigs. Because the box calls them "guinea pigs", he is confident that the animals in the shipment are indeed pigs, so he demands that the receiver of the box, McMorehouse, pay him 48 cents to send them to him. Jack Kinney
John Ryan Kinney (March 29, 1909 – February 9, 1992)Lenburg (2006), pp. 180 was an American animator, director and producer of animated shorts. Kinney is the older brother of fellow Disney animator Dick Kinney. Ellis Parker Butler
Ellis Parker Butler (December 5, 1869 – September 13, 1937) was an American author. He was the author of more than 30 books and more than 2,000 stories and essays and is most famous for his short story "Pigs Is Pigs", in which a bureaucratic stationmaster insists on levying the livestock rate for a shipment of two pet guinea pigs, which soon start proliferating exponentially. His most famous character was Philo Gubb. His career spanned more than forty years, and his stories, poems, and articles were published in more than 225 magazines. His work appeared alongside that of his contemporaries, including Mark Twain, Sax Rohmer, James B. Hendryx, Berton Braley, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Don Marquis, Will Rogers, and Edgar Rice Burroughs. The Irish Washerwoman
"The Irish Washerwoman" is a traditional jig known to have been played throughout Britain and Ireland and in North America. Although usually considered an Irish tune, some scholars claim that it is English in origin, derived from the seventeenth-century tune "Dargason". This jig was incorporated as the first movement of the ''Irish Suite'', a collection of traditional tunes arranged for orchestra by American composer Leroy Anderson in 1946. Over the years many songs have used ''The Irish Washerwoman'' tune. One of the most popularly known lyrics sung to the tune is ''McTavish Is Dead''. In popular culture The song has been used in many movies, such as ''Christmas in Connecticut'' and '' Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World''. United Productions of America, better known as UPA, was an American animation studio active from the 1940s through the 1970s.
