Piety Street Recording
Piety Street Recording is a recording studio at 728 Piety Street in the 9th Ward/ Bywater, New Orleans. History The building was originally a US post office and later housed the Louisiana Center For Retarded Citizens. After a few short-term tenants, the building was purchased in 1999 by producer/engineer/musician Mark Bingham and ex-REM manager Jefferson Holt. In 2001 it was rebuilt as a 3-studio recording facility and christened Piety Street Recording. Other partners included artist and studio manager Shawn Hall and producer/engineer John Fishbach, with Wesley Fontenot serving as chief engineer. The studio's largest room, Studio A, utilized a 48-channel SSL 4064 G+ loaded with 30 outboard microphone preamps. Crowbar (American Band)
Crowbar is an American sludge metal band formed in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1990. The band is fronted by vocalist/guitarist Kirk Windstein, Crowbar's sole constant member. Through infusing a slow, low-keyed, brooding doom metal sound with the aggression of hardcore punk, they pioneered a style known as sludge metal – albeit Windstein admitted a mild dislike to the term – alongside other bands of the New Orleans heavy metal scene such as Eyehategod, Soilent Green, Acid Bath, and Down. History Origins (1988–1991) The band dates back to 1988, when Kirk Windstein joined the New Orleans hardcore punk band ShellShock. He met Jimmy Bower, who was their drummer, and they quickly became friends. The band collapsed when Mike Hatch, their guitarist, committed suicide in late 1988. John Mooney (musician)
John Mooney (born April 3, 1955) is an American blues guitarist and singer based in New Orleans, Louisiana. He has developed a unique music style by combining Delta blues with the funky second line beat of New Orleans. He is especially known for his slide guitar work. Early life Mooney was born in East Orange, New Jersey, and raised in Rochester, New York. He left home when he was 15. The following year, he met Son House, a Mississippi bluesman who became a huge musical influence on him. Musical career In 1976, Mooney moved to New Orleans, and soon he was playing with host of musicians in the New Orleans R&B circuit including Earl King, The Meters, Snooks Eaglin and Professor Longhair. Shannon McNally
Shannon Maureen McNally (born March 17, 1973) is an American singer and songwriter. Biography McNally was born in Hempstead, New York, on Long Island. While studying anthropology at Franklin and Marshall College, she began singing and playing guitar in small clubs. In 1997, after graduating and honing her skills on the streets of Paris as a busker, she got a contract with Capitol Records. She recorded her debut album, ''Jukebox Sparrows'' (Capitol, 2002), with Jim Keltner, Greg Leisz, and James Gadson. The album was not released at the time of its recording. OK Go is an American rock band originally from Chicago, Illinois, now based in Los Angeles, California. The band is composed of Damian Kulash (lead vocals, guitar), Tim Nordwind (bass guitar and vocals), Dan Konopka (drums and percussion), and Andy Ross (guitar, keyboards and vocals), who joined them in 2005, replacing Andy Duncan. The band is known for its quirky and elaborate music videos which are often filmed in one take. The original members formed as OK Go in 1998 and released two studio albums before Duncan's departure. Judith Owen
Judith Owen (born 2 January 1969) is a Welsh singer-songwriter. Her first North American album, ''Emotions on a Postcard'', was released in 1996 and has been followed by several additional albums. Harry Shearer
Harry Julius Shearer (born December 23, 1943) is an American actor, comedian, writer, musician, radio host, director and producer. Born in Los Angeles, California, Shearer began his career as a child actor. From 1969 to 1976, Shearer was a member of The Credibility Gap, a radio comedy group. Following the breakup of the group, Shearer co-wrote the film ''Real Life'' (1979) with Albert Brooks and worked as a writer on Martin Mull's television series ''Fernwood 2 Night''. Shearer was a cast member on ''Saturday Night Live'' between 1979 and 1980, and 1984 and 1985. Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars (also called Refugee All Stars) is a band from Sierra Leone which was formed by a group of refugees displaced to Guinea during the Sierra Leone Civil War. Since their return to Freetown in 2004, the band has toured extensively to raise awareness for humanitarian causes. Their story is documented in the 2005 documentary film '' Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars''. Their debut album, '' Living Like a Refugee'', was released on the label Anti in Europe on September 25, 2006 and in the US on September, 26 2006. Cassandra Wilson
Cassandra Wilson (born December 4, 1955) is an American jazz singer, songwriter, and producer from Jackson, Mississippi.
