Francis Pierrepont (Parliamentarian)
Francis Pierrepont (died 1659) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1640. He fought in the Parliamentary army in the English Civil War. Pierrepont was the third son of Robert Pierrepont, 1st Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull and his wife Gertrude Talbot, daughter of Henry Talbot. In April 1640, Pierrepont was elected Member of Parliament for East Retford in the Short Parliament. In the Civil War, Pierrepont raised a regiment for the parliamentary army of which he became colonel.. In 1645 he was elected MP for Nottingham in the Long Parliament. He built Pierrepont House in Nottingham in the mid-17th century. Pierrepont died in 1659. He had married Elizabeth Bray, daughter of Thomas Bray, of Eyam, Derbyshire, and had issue. Charles William Sydney Pierrepont, 4th Earl Manvers, VD (2 August 1854 – 17 July 1926), known as Viscount Newark from 1860 to 1900, was a British nobleman and Conservative Party politician. Career Born in London, he was the eldest son of Sydney William Herbert Pierrepont, 3rd Earl Manvers. He was educated at Eton, and was styled by the courtesy title of Viscount Newark from 1860 until succeeded to his father's peerage in January 1900. Sydney William Herbert Pierrepont, 3rd Earl Manvers (12 March 1826 – 16 January 1900) was a British nobleman and politician. Born at Holme Pierrepont, he was the second surviving son of Charles Pierrepont, 2nd Earl Manvers. Educated at Eton, Pierrepont entered Christ Church, Oxford in 1843 and received his BA in 1846. While attending there, he was commissioned a first lieutenant in the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Cavalry (Sherwood Rangers) in 1844. Pierrepont was styled Viscount Newark after the death of his elder brother in 1850. In 1851, he was commissioned a captain in the South Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Cavalry, and in 1852, was elected unopposed as Conservative Member of Parliament for South Nottinghamshire. He was named a deputy lieutenant of Nottinghamshire in 1854. Newark continued to sit for South Nottinghamshire until 1860, when he succeeded his father as Earl Manvers. Charles Herbert Pierrepont, 2nd Earl Manvers (11 August 1778 – 27 October 1860) was an English nobleman and naval officer, the second son of Charles Pierrepont, 1st Earl Manvers. Evelyn Pierrepont, 2nd Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull, KG (171123 September 1773) was an English nobleman and landowner, a member of the House of Lords. He was the only son of William Pierrepont, Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull (1692–1713) and his wife, Rachel Bayntun (1695–1722). His paternal grandparents were Evelyn Pierrepont, 1st Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull and his wife Mary Feilding, a daughter of William Feilding, 3rd Earl of Denbigh, while his maternal grandparents were Elizabeth Willoughby and her husband Thomas Bayntun of Little Chalfield, Wiltshire, or else her lover John Hall of Bradford-on-Avon. Evelyn Pierrepont, 1st Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull, (c. 16655 March 1726) was an English aristocrat, the third son of Robert Pierrepont of Thoresby, Nottinghamshire, and his wife Elizabeth Evelyn (daughter of John Evelyn), and the grandson of William Pierrepont of Thoresby. He was born at West Dean, Wiltshire. Political career He had been the member of parliament for East Retford before his accession to the peerage as fifth Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull in 1690. While serving as one of the commissioners for the union with Scotland, he was created Marquess of Dorchester in 1706, and took a leading part in the business of the House of Lords. William Pierrepont, 4th Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull (c. 1662 – 17 September 1690) was a British peer and Member of Parliament. The second son of Robert Pierrepont of Thoresby Nottinghamshire and his wife Elizabeth Evelyn, Pierrepont was born on the Evelyn estate of West Dean, Wiltshire. He was educated at Trinity College, Oxford. He inherited the Earldom of Kingston-upon-Hull in June 1682 from his elder brother Robert Pierrepont, 3rd Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull. In 1689 and 1690 he acted as Colonel of a Regiment of Foot, Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire and Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Chief Justice in Eyre North of the Trent, and High Steward of Kingston-upon-Hull. He died in 1690 of apoplexy at Holme Pierrepont, and was succeeded as 5th Earl by his younger brother Evelyn Pierrepont. Henry Pierrepont, 1st Marquess of Dorchester, PC, FRSFRCP(March 16068 December 1680) was an English peer. He was the son of Robert Pierrepont, 1st Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull, and his wife, the former Gertrude Talbot, daughter of George Talbot and Elizabeth Reyner, and cousin of the Earl of Shrewsbury. Career Styled Viscount Newark from 1628, he was member of parliament for Nottingham from 1628 until 1629, and was summoned to the House of Lords in his father's Barony of Pierrepont in 1641. He succeeded his father as 2nd Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull in 1643.
