Pierre Jabouille
Pierre Charles Edmond Jabouille (25 November 1875 – 15 May 1947) was a French colonial administrator in Indochina and took an interest in the ornithology of the region, describing numerous new species. Jabouille was born in Saintes, Département Charente-Maritime, son of a judge and later chairman of the cabinet of the prefecture of Calvados department Louis Arthur Jabouille (1842-1887) and Emma Jenny née Lejeune. He went to study law and worked at Barcelonnette. He moved to Indochina in 1905 as an administrative officer living in Lào Cai, Quảng Trị and serving as a mayor of Hanoi. He rose to become a governor. He also took an interest in the birds of the region and made expeditions along with Jean Théodore Delacour between 1923 and 1933, sometimes also Willoughby Prescott Lowe (1872-1949) and collected numerous bird specimens. Saintes, Charente-Maritime
Saintes (; Poitevin-Saintongeais: ''Sénte'') is a commune and historic town in western France, in the Charente-Maritime department of which it is a sub-prefecture, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its inhabitants are called ''Saintaises'' and ''Saintais''. Saintes is the second-largest city in Charente-Maritime, with inhabitants in 2008. Jean Théodore Delacour
Jean Théodore Delacour (26 September 1890 – 5 November 1985) was a French ornithologist and aviculturist. He later became American. He was renowned for not only discovering but also rearing some of the rarest birds in the world. He established very successful aviaries twice in his life, stocked with birds from around the world, including those that he obtained on expeditions to Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. His first aviary in Villers-Bretonneux was destroyed in World War One. The second one that he established at Clères was destroyed in World War Two. He moved to the United States of America where he worked on avian systematics and was one of the founders of the International Committee for Bird Protection (later BirdLife International). One of the birds he discovered was the imperial pheasant, later identified as a hybrid between the Vietnamese pheasant and the silver pheasant. ''Ornithology'', formerly ''The Auk'' and ''The Auk: Ornithological Advances'', is a peer-reviewed scientific journal and the official publication of the American Ornithological Society (AOS). Arborophila Merlini
The Vietnam partridge, Annam partridge, or Annam hill partridge, ''Tropicoperdix chloropus merlini'', is now usually considered a subspecies of the green-legged partridge in the family Phasianidae of birds. It is endemic to Vietnam in the dense moist lowland forests of central Annam. Description This species is 29 cm long, with the female slightly smaller than the male. The male weighs 290 grams and the female 250 grams. The Vietnam partridge has a finely barred brown back. Its head is paler except for a brown crown and ear coverts. It has a scaly upper breast, lacking the chestnut of its relatives, and the rest of the underparts are buff with dark arrow markings on the flanks. The sexes have similar plumage.
