Pierre-De Saurel Regional County Municipality
Pierre-De Saurel is a regional county municipality in the Montérégie region in southwestern Quebec, Canada. Originally named Le Bas-Richelieu Regional County Municipality, the name change to Pierre-De Saurel took effect on January 1, 2009. Its seat is in Sorel-Tracy. It is located on the Richelieu River, downstream from La Vallée-du-Richelieu Regional County Municipality at the confluence of the Richelieu and Saint Lawrence River. The RCM is named after Pierre de Saurel, a captain and seigneur who rebuilt Fort Richelieu in 1647. Regional County Municipality
The term regional county municipality or RCM (''french: municipalité régionale de comté, MRC'') is used in Quebec, Canada to refer to one of 87 county-like political entities. In some older English translations they were called county regional municipality. Regional county municipalities are a supralocal type of regional municipality, and act as the local municipality in Unorganized area#Quebec, unorganized territories within their borders. The system of regional county municipalities was introduced beginning in 1979 to replace the List of former counties of Quebec, historic counties of Quebec. In most cases, the territory of an RCM corresponds to that of a Census geographic units of Canada, census division; however, there are a few exceptions. Saint-Ours is a city located in the Pierre-De Saurel Regional County Municipality of Québec (Canada), in the administrative region of Montérégie. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 1,721. Founded in 1650 and originally constituent of the Saint-Ours Parish Municipality, which merged alongside L'Immaculée-Conception-de-Saint-Ours municipality in 1991, Saint-Ours is one of the earliest settlements in Montérégie. Massueville, Quebec
Massueville is a village municipality in Pierre-De Saurel Regional County Municipality, Quebec, Canada. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 516. It is named after Gaspard-Aimé Massue, landowner. Its sister municipality is Saint-Aimé. The town lies the banks of the Yamaska river. The core of the town is composed of several well kept heritage houses. Massueville had a big fire near the church in an abandoned convent on 27 October 2006. Sainte-Anne-de-Sorel, Quebec
Sainte-Anne-de-Sorel is a municipality in the Pierre-De Saurel Regional County Municipality, in the Montérégie region of Quebec. The community consists of a mainland section along with several islands extending into Lac Saint-Pierre. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 2,742, which makes it the largest municipality and the second largest urban division of the RCM. From 2006 throughout 2010 there has been much speculation about Sainte-Anne willing to merge into Sorel-Tracy to become a district (much like the former Saint-Pierre-de-Sorel and Tracy municipalities), however at the present time there has been no future talk about it at both city halls. The RCM planning administration is against the merger though, as it would compromise development potential in Sainte-Anne in favor of Sorel, since property evaluation services would be unified.
