Pierre-A. Brouillette (born May 24, 1951 in Saint-Séverin, Mauricie) was a politician in Quebec, Canada. He is a businessman. Brouillette was elected as a Liberal candidate to the provincial legislature in the district of Champlain in 1985. He was re-elected in 1989, but was defeated by PQ candidate Yves Beaumier in 1994. He tried to return in the 2003 election (on April 14), but the election resulted in a tie vote. 1994 Quebec General Election
The 1994 Quebec general election was held on September 12, 1994, to elect members of the National Assembly of Quebec. The Parti Québécois, led by Jacques Parizeau, defeated the incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Premier Daniel Johnson Jr. Johnson had succeeded Robert Bourassa as Liberal leader and Premier. Both his father, Daniel Sr., and brother, Pierre-Marc, had previously served as premiers of Quebec as leaders of different parties. The election set the stage for the 1995 Quebec referendum on independence for Quebec from Canada. The referendum would see the PQ government's proposals for sovereignty very narrowly defeated. Marcel Gagnon (born April 19, 1936) is a former Canadian politician. A businessman, he served as a legislator for both the National Assembly of Quebec and the House of Commons. Provincial politics Gagnon ran as a Parti Québécois candidate in 1976 in the provincial riding of Champlain. He was elected with 41% of the vote. He was re-elected in 1981 with 54% of the vote, but was defeated in 1985 with 44% of the vote and finished third in 1989 as an Independent candidate with 19% of the vote. Noëlla Champagne (born December 25, 1944 in Saint-Tite, Quebec) is a politician from Quebec, Canada, and former Member of the National Assembly (MNA). Career Champagne worked as a teacher in French and history from 1964 to 1971 at the secondary level. Before her political career she was the political secretary for Champlain MNA Yves Beaumier from 1997 to 2003. She ran as a Parti Québécois (PQ) candidate in the district of Champlain in the 2003 election (on April 14), which resulted in a tie vote. A subsequent by-election was necessary to break the tie, and it gave Champagne, who became the 45th PQ MNA to the new assembly, the victory over Liberal candidate and former MNA Pierre-A. The 2003 Quebec general election was held on April 14, 2003, to elect members of the National Assembly of Quebec (Canada). The Parti libéral du Québec (PLQ), led by Jean Charest, defeated the incumbent Parti Québécois, led by Premier Bernard Landry. Mauricie () is a traditional and current administrative region of Quebec. La Mauricie National Park is contained within the region, making it a prime tourist location. The region has a land area of 35,860.05 km² (13,845.64 sq mi) and a population of 266,112 residents as of the 2016 Census. Its largest cities are Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan. The Parti Québécois (; ; PQ) is a sovereignist and social democratic provincial political party in Quebec, Canada.
