Piero Tosi
Piero Tosi (10 April 1927 – 10 August 2019) was an Italian costume designer. Biography Tosi's film credits include '' Senso'', ''Bellissima'', ''The Leopard'', ''Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow'', ''Death in Venice'', ''The Night Porter'', and ''La Traviata''. He was particularly known for his exhaustively researched and intricately detailed historical costumes. He won the David di Donatello for Best Costumes twice, as well as the 50th Anniversary David in 2006. He also won the BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design twice, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design five times. For his personal achievements in costume design over 75 years, he was awarded an Academy Honorary Award on 16 November 2013. Sesto Fiorentino (), known locally as just Sesto, is a municipality (''comune'') in the Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany, central Italy. History The oldest known human settlement in the area dates from the Mesolithic (c. 9,000 years ago). The Etruscan presence is known from the 7th century BC, but the town proper was created by the Romans as ''Sextus ab urbe lapis'' ("Sixth mile from the Town Milestone"). Mauro Bolognini (28 June 1922 – 14 May 2001) was an Italian film and stage director of literate sensibility, known for his masterly handling of period subject matter. Early years Bolognini was born in Pistoia, in the Tuscany region of Italy. After earning a master's degree in architecture at the University of Florence, Bolognini enrolled at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (Italian National Film Academy) in Rome, where he studied stage design. After graduation, he became interested in film direction and set out to work as an assistant to directors Luigi Zampa in Italy, and Yves Allégret and Jean Delannoy in France. Mario Soldati (17 November 1906 – 19 June 1999) was an cinema of Italy, Italian writer and film director. In 1954 he won the Strega Prize for ''Lettere da Capri.'' He directed several works adapted from novels, and worked with leading Italian actresses, such as Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida.
