Piedmont (Amtrak)
The ''Piedmont'' (also known as the ''Piedmont Service'') is a regional rail, regional passenger train operated by Amtrak and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), running three round-trips daily between Raleigh, North Carolina, Raleigh and Charlotte, North Carolina. It is a sister train to the ''Carolinian (train), Carolinian'', which runs from Charlotte to New York City. The ''Piedmont'' route is coextensive with the far southern leg of the ''Carolinian,'' largely paralleling Interstate 85 in North Carolina, Interstate 85. Operations began in May 1995. NCDOT owns the rolling stock used on the ''Piedmont'', unlike the ''Carolinian'', which uses List of Amtrak rolling stock, Amtrak rolling stock. Both trains are marketed by NCDOT under the NC By Train brand. Piedmont Limited
The ''Piedmont Limited'' was a named passenger train operated by the Southern Railway in the southern United States. For most of its life it was a New York—New Orleans train, operating over the same route as the more famous '' Crescent Limited''. The Southern Railway introduced the train on March 12, 1899, and it was known as thcrack trainof the route until the introduction of the ''Crescent'' in 1925. The Southern Railway discontinued the ''Piedmont Limited'' in 1967.
