Picnic Day (UC Davis)
Picnic Day is an annual open house event held in April at the University of California, Davis. Picnic Day was first held on May 22, 1909. It has grown to be what is believed to be the largest student-run event in the United States, typically drawing more than 50,000 visitors. In 2009, around 125,000 visitors attended Picnic Daya new attendance record. The Picnic Day went virtual in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Events and attractions Most departments put on exhibitions, competitions, or presentations to introduce themselves to the public. Due in large part to UC Davis' reputation as one of the finest veterinary medicine institutions in the country, Picnic Day features dozens of exhibitions featuring animals, including the famed geep, a goat-sheep chimera. Butterscotch (performer)
Antoinette Clinton (born September 29, 1985), known by her stage name Butterscotch, is an American beatboxer, singer, and musician. Early career Butterscotch learned to play the piano at an early age as her mother was a piano teacher. Her siblings all played the piano plus one other instrument trumpet, cello, trombone, clarinet; Clinton had access to all these instruments. As Butterscotch grew older, she was exposed to beat boxing by her high school friends, and was inspired to learn the skill, adopting the stage name "Butterscotch" which originated from a song Antoinette wrote in high school. Emil Mrak
Emil Marcel Mrak (October 27, 1901 – April 9, 1987) was an American food scientist, microbiologist, and second chancellor of the University of California, Davis. He was recognized internationally for his work in food preservation and as a world authority on the biology of yeasts. Biography Early years Mrak was born in San Francisco, California to a Croatian family, but did not grow up in that city. Instead, he was raised in the rural orchards of the Santa Clara Valley. He graduated from Campbell High School in Campbell, then went on to receive a B.S. degree in Food Technology in 1926, M.S. degree in 1928, and Ph.D. degree in botany and mycology in 1936 from the University of California, Berkeley. Karen Lorraine Jacqueline Speier ( ; born May 14, 1950) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative for , serving in Congress since 2008. She is a member of the Democratic Party. The district, numbered as the 12th District from 2008 to 2013, includes the northern two-thirds of San Mateo County and the southwest quarter of San Francisco. Martin Yan (; born 22 December 1948) is a Hong Kong chef and food writer. He has hosted his award-winning PBS-TV cooking show ''Yan Can Cook'' since 1982.
