Pickles Reef
Pickles Reef is a small coral reef located within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. It lies to the southeast of Key Largo, to the south the Key Largo Existing Management Area and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Unlike many reefs within the Sanctuary, this reef is not within a Sanctuary Preservation Area (SPA). The reef gets its name from the Pickle Barrel wreck. Another small reef called Snapper Ledge is nearby. Shipwreck Various types of debris are scattered across the reef, including a number of barrel-shaped concrete objects. Local legend was that the concrete objects had been barrels of concrete on a ship or barge that had wrecked on the reef during the Civil War, but an analysis performed in 2008 showed that the concrete was a type of Portland cement produced between 1890 and 1923. Archaeologists have found evidence of an iron- or steel-hulled vessel with two masts that wrecked on the reef, but have not identified the ship. It is not clear how much of the ...

Pickles Dillhoefer
William Martin "Pickles" Dillhoefer (October 13, 1893 – February 23, 1922) was a Major League Baseball catcher for parts of the 1917–1921 seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals. Dillhoefer was famously one-fourth of what is generally considered one of the worst trades in Phillies history: Dillhoefer was sent with Mike Prendergast from the Cubs to the Phillies in exchange for catcher Bill Killefer and Hall of Fame pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander on December 11, 1917. While his career was undistinguished, Dillhoefer was still young when he died from typhoid fever in the winter of 1921–1922. Aside from his death at a young age, Dillhoefer was remembered for his colorful nickname, a play on dill pickles. External linksBaseball ...

Pickles (pickleball)
Pickleball is an indoor or outdoor racket/paddle sport where two players (singles), or four players (doubles), hit a perforated hollow polymer ball over a net using solid-faced paddles. Opponents on either side of the net hit the ball back and forth until one side commits a rule infraction. Pickleball was invented in 1965 as a children's backyard game on Bainbridge Island, Washington, USA. In 2022, pickleball was adopted as the official state sport of Washington. The appearance of a pickleball court, and the manner of play, resemble tennis, but the court is the size of a doubles badminton court, less than a third the size of a tennis court. Court lines and rules are specific to pickleball and include two on either side of the net known as the ''non-volley zones'', where the ball cannot be hit with the paddle unless the ball bounces first. The official rules specify side-out scoring, where only the serving team can score a point. All serves are made with an underhand stroke. Th ...
