Phyllis Stadler Lyon
Phyllis Stadler Lyon, formerly Phyllis Marie Stadler, is an American former field hockey player who played on the United States women's national field hockey team, U.S. women's national field hockey team from 1958 to 1965. She was in the first class of inductees into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame, U.S. Field Hockey Association Hall of Fame. Early years A native of Rumson, New Jersey, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry R. Stadler. She graduated from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School. She then attended a four-year college preparatory course at Linden Hall (school), Linden Hall from which she graduated in 1952. While at Linden Hall, she was president of the activities council, vice president of her class, and won varsity letters in basketball, field hockey, volleyball, swimming (sport), swimming, tennis, and table tennis. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Collegeville is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, a suburb outside of Philadelphia on Perkiomen Creek. Collegeville was incorporated in 1896. It is the location of Ursinus College which opened in 1869. The population was 5,089 at the 2010 census. History The area which is present day Collegeville was part of the original William Penn purchase of "All the land lying on the Pahkehoma" in 1684. In 1799, Perkiomen Bridge was constructed using funds raised from a special lottery approved by the Pennsylvania Legislature. Ursinus College is a private liberal arts college in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1869 and occupies a 170-acre campus. History 19th century In 1867, members of the German Reformed Church began plans to establish a college where "young men could be liberally educated under the benign influence of Christianity." The founders hoped to establish an alternative to the seminary at Mercersburg, Pennsylvania (the present-day Lancaster Theological Seminary), a school they believed was increasingly heretical to traditional Reformed faith.
